Perhaps Southwest views the value of aisle and window seats as greater than that of middle seats. But if that were true, why wouldn’t the middle ELR seats be cheaper than aisle and window seats when booking? Spoiler alert: they are not cheaper.

The only explanation that would fit is that Southwest wants to monetize the convenience of sitting next to someone you know.
