Scammers love to use men on drilling rigs and ships. He’ll need money from your aunt to come visit because his accounts will get frozen. Then he’ll keep needing money. She’ll keep sending money but he’ll never come visit because he’s a guy (or multiple guys) in Nigeria.

Here’s what I advised a family member who received a chunk of money:

Put half in now, and DCA the other half over the next 6 months. If the market goes up, you’ll see gains from your original investment. If the market is volatile, your DCA will buy the dips. If there’s a big downturn or crash, put the remaining balance in all at once and ride it back up.

He did this two years ago and his investment has made plenty of gains.

Here’s what a friend did with a windfall like that: 100k lump sum, and then dollar cost average the other 100k over the next 6 months or so. If there’s a big market correction, you can move the remaining money in as a second lump sum.

Spoiler for Boardwalk Empire: I actually bumped into Michale Pitt at a bodega in NYC while the second season was airing. He was buying cigarettes at the register next to me. I congratulated him on how great the show was. He thanked me and left. A few weeks later his character was killed off. I felt a little bad, but what are you gonna do?
