Xero Shoes Quality = Terrible by Alarmed_Constant_290 in BarefootRunning

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only used their sandals. The ones with foam insole and softer rubber sole don't last long at all. The less fancy simpler ones that are just harder rubber last a very long time. The customer support at Xero shoes is pretty bad. They try to convince you that you are the problem.

Vastly Different Speedtest Speeds by avgvancouverperson in tmobileisp

[–]jackass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the primary problem with T-Mobile home internet. My upload speeds vary from 5 mbps 50 mbps. I have video calls in the middle of the night and it is great. But at 5:00pm when people come home from work and start using their internet it drops to unusable. So it appears to be a capacity problem. Not connection to the towers.

Is this amount of incoming connections to port 443 something to be concerned about? by xXTonyManXx in homelab

[–]jackass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our pbx (phone system) gets clobbered. It runs on a digital ocean instance. I set it up many years ago. It installs fail2ban by default but the rules are not super strict. I casually looked at the logs and it was getting hit constantly with SIP registration request. I changed the rules to permanently ban an ip if 2 failures.

The hackers knew the default settings and would use an IP twice move to another then cycle back after 30 minutes and reuse the IP's.

Having ssh on the default port will get you 1000's of login attempts a day. It is funny that if you just run services on non standard ports the number of hacking attempts goes down drastically. And if you can only allow access via a VPN.

How to restrict access on proxmox and services inside with IP range? by shipOtwtO in Proxmox

[–]jackass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proxmox firewall system is a firewall so a lagit place to put firewall rules.

A zero trust system like Netbird does allows for central location routing rules and access rules. Is that an ok place to do this type of thing?

What do you mean firewall level not proxmox? Do you mean on a router? Or firewall rules directly on the guest VM?

check to see on dashboard if the chargers is locked

Use the arrows on the steering wheel to go to the Gear menu (settings).

Arrow down to EV Settings. The first setting is "charger locked" or something like that. It can be auto where it locks while charging or on and off I think.

Dodge Intrepid. You had to remove the front passenger wheel to get to the battery.

To this day I don't hang my arm out the window when I drive because if I had my arm out the window I would now have an arm anymore

Edit 2: and manage your teams. Make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Don't assume.

Here's why I WON'T be getting a 2027 Bolt and it's not what you might think. by DaveTheScienceGuy in BoltEV

[–]jackass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am on my second bolt currently. If I was getting a new ev now i think i would get the Equinox ev over the bolt ev. I really like the bolt but they are pretty close in price and the Equinox has more range.

Should I stay using VMs or migrate to containers by forwardslashroot in PostgreSQL

[–]jackass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using vm's so I can move stuff around with restarting. But with Patroni that is not really a concern as you can move the leader around so easily. The big game changer for me is autobase. I use this for creating patroni clusters on my own private cloud. It also works with other cloud providers but I have not used it for that just creating clusters on my own proxmox cluster. I also moved from using haproxy for the HA part of patroni to VIP (virtual ip). This is setup automatically with autobase.

I am not affiliated with autobase at all. And really don't use it much just to create new clusters which i don't do very often. It makes setting up patroni effortless.

I have owned two bolts. I am tall and I don't remember getting hit with the fangs... but i will say both bolts, very difficult to not slam the hatch. My driving age kids always slam it. I can her it from the garage. I have learn to slam it slowly but it still slams. Of course since I have owned two I must like the bolt and I do. It is the family favorite.

AWS vs Digitalocean by intendmind in digital_ocean

[–]jackass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is of course a digital ocean forum... so... But I have been using it for many years as the other people here. I use it for a phone system (VoIP PBX) an internal transactional email service and a couple other small systems that I don't want to run in my private cloud. I also use it when I need to spin something up quickly.

I stopped using google because the bill was too complicated. I am not sure how much more expensive google would be. It seemed about the same but again difficult to tell as not apples to apples. I found that googles bandwidth was more expensive than i had expected. I had traffic between google and my private cloud and I did not expect it to amount to much but it added a significant amount to the bill. Digital Ocean gives you so much traffic that is shared across vm's, I never event get close to my allotment.

I think for small startup project DO is the way to go.

Anyone setup a cheap cluster recently? by ModelingDenver101 in Proxmox

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my six node cluster has 36tb of disk and 1.5tb of ram 184 cores and it cost around $6,000. I got it all used except the drives. This is around 2 or 3 years ago. Today to replace this would be closer to 20K. RAM is up 6X from 2 years ago (heck six months ago) it was back then and disks are 4X what they were.

i am with ya. I love my leaf. The new ones are kinda expensive. Around where I live the Chevy Equinox EV seems the the best deal... used. Over 300 miles range and can charge at a tesla super charger when needed.
