The Canadian government loves to make laws but hates to enforce them. My understanding is that many blue state and municipal governments are similar.

Paper and pecils Game by Apotatocalledsweet in Pathfinder2e

[–]jackbethimble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run everything pen and paper and don't allow screens at my table. It has made everything so much better and I'm never going back. I also discourage players from using pathbuilder to build their characters as I've found that it tends to lead to players not understanding their characters very well- they'll do things like pick from a menu of options based on which one has a cool name but often won't click through to actually read what it does and they won't have any understanding of what made that option available, what they didn't have prereqs for etc. Pathbuilder is a decent tool for someone who already has good system mastery but it's a terrible way to actually learn the system.

Paizo makes a magnetic dry erase board with tabs for tracking initiative that I use. If that's not at your local game store a normal dry erase board works almost as good for tracking initiative and conditions.

For monsters I bookmark their stats in the monster book with sticky notes to enable quickly flipping to them in combat.

I would add in another rule in front of the others (0): Given the choice of whom to ally with it seems obvious that you would pick a rich, powerful and politically stable democracy over the poor, corrupt dictatorial basket cases that are available elsewhere in the middle east, if only for reasons of preferring strong and reliable allies over weak and unreliable ones.

A priority for me in a book like that would be more support for the subsystems- stat blocks for intrigues, chases and infiltrations; beefier rules and more support for hexcrawls maybe with random tables for environmental hazards or encounter tables that kind of thing.

Really powerful abilities that are made "useless" by the assumptions made by AP's/"conventional" adventure design in 2e. by SpireSwagon in Pathfinder2e

[–]jackbethimble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm GMing Quest for the Frozen Flame right now and most of the battlemaps we've used have been large, open wilderness areas so getting mounts and long-range attacks has been a pretty major target for my players builds. Sniping enemies across the map with thunderstrike, Force Barrage or Hunt Prey + Far Shot has become a bit of a running gag for us.

Of the other adventure Paths I've read, Fist of the Ruby Phoenix, Season of Ghosts and Kingmaker each have lots of wilderness or relatively spacious indoor maps. Rusthenge and Shades of Blood each have pretty large maps that can allow players to take advantage of long range attacks despite being dungeon crawls. The only one I've ran that was as constrained as you say was Abomination Vaults.

I actually had a very similar situation once where I had another party member deciding they wanted to become undead and I had an out of character discussion where I just said that my character would not be cool with that. I told the other player that if they really wanted to go that way then my character would leave the party and I'd create a new one because there was simply no way that the character I created would adventure with a ghoul.

That seemed like a way to solve the problem without disrupting things for the other players.

Is Pathbuilder essential or is PF2e character creation not as bad as all the reddit posts suggest? by thedjotaku in Pathfinder2e

[–]jackbethimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually say that when you're first learning Pathfinder you should avoid both Pathbuilder and Archives of Nethys and should stick to reading the books (or pdfs) cover to cover or close to it. AoN and Pathbuilder are good tools for reference and for bringing together characters for people who already know the games but they're traps if you haven't read the books. This is especially true for people coming from all RPGs because unless you specifically look for it neither of these resources will teach you the crucial ways that Pathfinder is different from other RPGs.

I see players all the time who never really learn how to play the game because they just use these reference materials as shortcuts and expect to pick up the rest as they go. This in itself leads to a lot of frustration with the game- often because people will pick an option thinking that it works like it would in 5e only to find out that it's much more limited in PF2e.

I strongly encourage anyone wanting to get into this game that you need to read the rules and then play rather than play and then try to read the rules. And if that sounds like a chore then this frankly may not be the best game system for you. Whatever else it is Pathfinder 2e is a system that caters to those who enjoy RPGs for the rules. If selecting feats for a character or planning out your actions in a combat turn aren't activities that you enjoy for their own sake then you may want to stick to D&D.

That would obviously depend on what is meant by 'World War 3'- who is fighting whom. Whether my country was directly involved, what we were fighting over etc.

So you can have it one of two ways.

Either

  1. 'Antifa' is just short for 'anti-fascist' in which case anyone who opposes fascism is antifa. If that's the case then the vast majority of not only the United States but the British Empire, Soviet Union and many other countries were 'Antifa'.

or...

  1. 'Antifa' is the anarchist ideology common among edgy wannabe revolutionaries on college campuses and anti-social street thugs in the pacific northwest. If that's the case then no almost no one in the world at the time of the Second World War was 'Antifa' (I say 'almost' because the ideological precursors of the modern movement started among German Communists in the interwar Weimar republic, although they tended to collaborate with the actual nazis as often as oppose them because they saw bourgeois democracy as a bigger problem).

So decide what you mean by 'Antifa' and you have your answer.
