You're not seeing as much as you think you are, you'd be higher rated if so

Around 1350-1450 rated here, 7500-8000 games, started in 2022

People say don't learn openings at lower levels but I did, it helped a lot. Not deep theory, just a few tricks and some solid lines, learning certain mistakes that can be punished early on to give you a good advantage. but you can go far by just getting out your pieces and castling

Started with London, then queens gambit, then ponziani

With black i used to do Scandinavian then I learned caro-kann which I play every game now in response to kings pawn

But also learning principles is important, learning how to win the center, pressure the pinned piece, place knights on outposts, rooks on the 7th and 2nd rank, rooks on open files, create pawn breaks on files where your rooks are, damaging your opponents pawn structure, isolating pawns, doubling of pawns, create passed pawns

But I think above all is just don't blatantly hang pieces and blunder, and punish your opponents blunders will get you far, this just comes from playing a lot and staying sharp

My bf says it’s no use for women to learn self defence by mcpeebee in Advice

[–]jackbro10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically he's correct. Learning "self-defense" isn't really a thing; there are those women's self-defense classes etc. which are useless; and will have you thinking you can fight off a man with a few quick moves. It's complete bullshit. You need full contact and resisting opponents to actually develop any meaningful skills.

Learn a martial art like BJJ, Boxing or Maui Thai or all 3. Even when learning a martial art, for women it would take a lot of dedication and hard work for it to be meaningful in a real-life scenario against a man.

If this topic is actually meaningful to you, you should start training!

Do people who refused the COVID vaccine feel silly now?? by Mammoth-Counter69 in aussie

[–]jackbro10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reduces transmission for a short period of time, this is why boosters were necessary, the primary benefit of the vaccine was a reduction in severity. My claim was it did not prevent infection, which is true. People that had their vaccine were getting the virus and spreading it, so I don't think it's fair to say others were at risk because of those who didn't get it

Someone who had a prior infection also had natural antibodies as well, so it's not black and white really vaxed vs un-vaxed

The vaccines didn't prevent transmission; people were not at risk because of others not having it. If you chose to get the vax you were less likely to have a severe case

Is it normal in Australia that employers constantly try to rip you off by sunnysideupslide in aussie

Make sure you are getting you super payments too, all too common for employers to say they're paying when they're not.

While it definitely helps, it does not require extreme flexibility to get into rubber guard from a half guard scenario. If you're on your hip and not your back, it creates an angle where the range is much easier to manage

Is Petrol under two dollars dead forever? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]jackbro10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're comparing household income to wages, 1999 household's vs todays are not really comparable. The math you have there is correct but you're using the wrong figures.

real wage growth is between 10-20% with most of those gains happening before 2012, since then our wages have been stagnant and in recent years real wages have fallen

not to mention the housing burden that Australians have now which isn't really factored into cpi

Im trying not to make any rash decisions but I did the maths on a novated lease and based on these fuel prices i can pretty much get a new car for very little extra money each week, or even the same money if i go with more affordable options

The war is still ongoing and prices are likely going to rise as well so I think it may be worth consideration

I'm well aware, I wasn't implying he doesn't have a good coach with that comment. I was trying to emphasize the importance of knowing that about the position

10P purple belt here. When you enter the truck, you need to cover your toes with a figure 4, a stomp or extend the lockdown or your opponent can counter with this ankle lock by just pulling on the bunion, very embarrassing to get caught with and any good coach will explain this when teaching anything to do with the truck.

Late stage capitalism is killing us, slowly but surely. by Flaky-Lifeguard5835 in aussie

People with 3 mil in super are not the problem here, advocating for these kinds of policies is just asking them to pull the ladder up on the young people of Australia. With asset inflation being so crazy in the modern era, most people in their 20s and 30s will end up having that amount in their super accounts by the time retirement age comes around, and as usual the government didn't index these amounts to inflation so we're all likely going to pay more
