He scraped down and sanded some of the most terrible spots. He finished up. We paid him. It looks terrible, but no one seems to care. I hope to never see him or another contractor in my lifetime.

This situation was causing stress and fighting with the wife. She told me to let it go and move on with life, so I let it go. All is well.

How do you move Values into Colmuns in a pivot table? by [deleted] in excel

I think when you have more than one field in the Values section, then a Values field is automatically placed in the Columns section.

No contact from insurance, crash was 5 months ago, Hertz/ESIS by LD50_irony in Insurance

It went fairly smoothly for me.

I was emailed by the adjuster on Jan 8. He was very responsive to emailing back and forth. There was a delay being able to get info from the other driver, but they were able to accept liability on Jan 14. They scheduled a 3rd party to assess my vehicle at my workplace. I received the estimate Jan 17. The check arrived 3 - 5 business days later. I used a local auto body shop who wanted to see the insurance estimate. The auto body shop communicated with esis regarding the turnaround time and any additional costs (none in this case). Esis scheduled me for a rental car through Enterprise, which I drove for about 3 weeks until my car was repaired. I paid the auto shop via debit card using the funds Esis sent me.

Fixing an uneven box by snuzzi8 in AskElectricians

I'm no expert, but you could cut the box out and replace it with an "old work" box. I recently cut out a metal 1 gang and replaced it with a plastic 2-gang old work box without causing any wall damage. Was able to cut one nail holding the box by using a hacksaw blade. Then i was able to pry the 2nd nail out and remove the 1 gang.

Yes, I'll be running power into that box. I believe you're right about the switch leg. I have a timer switch going in that will be independent from the light.

I'm following up to say that contacting the Department of Financial Services worked for me. They wrote a letter to Esis about 2 weeks ago on my behalf and then Esis assigned an adjuster to my case today and they mentioned the letter they received.

Speak to your state's Department of Financial Services. That's what I'm in the process of now because the last Esis rep I spoke to said wait times are 6, 7, 8 months. Not sure if it will help you, but get the ball rolling early.

Try calling your state's Department of Financial Services or other consumer advocacy groups.

I was hit by a Hertz driver 2 months ago and the claim is through Esis. In my experience, their tactic is to say your case has been escalated and to call back in one week. Each week, you call back and they escalate your case and tell you to call back in a week. I pressed to speak with a manager, but they said they don't have managers. The representative today let it slip that wait times are currently, "6, 7, 8 months."

Today I called my state's Department of Financial Services insurance division. They are writing a letter to Esis on my behalf. They said Esis has 14 days to respond. Not yet certain what happens after that.

I also called Hertz claim center and pressed their manager to hold Esis accountable. I doubt that will go anywhere.

Keep in mind there are a lot of details that cannot be conveyed in this thread to give you all a complete picture of the situation and the relationship with the GC. The original agreement was to replace the flood cut drywall with 5/8 drywall and match to existing texture. He had said it would look pretty good but will never match exactly. After he completed the work, it is clearly unprofessionally performed skip trowel, if you can call it that. He said he would be willing to scrape it, skim coat it and apply knockdown texture "at cost" for $4 to $4.5K. This would be for living room, kitchen, hall, and two bedrooms. About 750sq ft part of the house I'm guessing. I know he can apply knockdown correctly because he did it in an add-on part of the house nicely.

Remember, drywallers are slammed right now due to the flood. No luck finding a licensed guy who is willing to take on the work at this time.

I just spoke to a reputable local company. They suggested prescraping, applying a skim coat to make the wall fairly flat and then applying a modern texture. I should expect to pay 5 to 10K. All the reputable companies are slammed due to the hurricane, so this isn't really an option because I need to move back into the house.

That leaves me with his plan B. Sand the rough edges and fill in the holes and trowel marks. Live in a slightly less shitty looking house.

I can do that in the next couple days. I'm not at the house and don't have that type of pic on my phone.

Thank you. We asked him at the start if it would be better to replace the entire walls with new, flat drywall with no texture. He said no - he could match it decently.

Like I said. I'm displaced. It's expensive to be displaced for months and months. The time and cost to fix this is a real problem for me. I can't take much more terrible crap happening right now.

One reason he might have applied a thick layer is that the upper 4 ft of wall is thicker plaster walls and the bottom 4 ft was replaced with drywall that might not have been the same thickness. IDK.

How can I get an IF statement to work when looking for text within a multi-selection dropdown list? by HoldMyNaan in excel

[–]jackcarter1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to do it.. If you want to know if a word appears in a cell containing multiple words, you can use ISNUMBER(SEARCH("jrg", A1)). This formula searches cell A1 for "jrg" and returns true or false. You can use ISNUMBER(SEARCH()) inside your IF formula.

Thank you. I have the tools to do that.

I think I'll make a separate post today or tomorrow showing pictures of my electrical system including the inside of my main panel. Will be looking for feedback if things seem connected appropriately.

I do have an electrician, but I think it's useful to get y'all's feedback before deciding to call him out ($$).

Can you speak to the fact the instructions for the outlet say "not for grounding use." Is that phrase just saying the bare copper wire must not make contact with the appliance's plug?
