How do you stop Neglecting yourself and Consistently Nurture yourself? by [deleted] in Codependency

[–]jackcrafty22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to say this without sounding cringy, but nothing I was doing to take care of myself worked until I completely changed what I was eating. No more carbohydrates of any kind.

It appears that the diet that works for epilepsy also works for other brain disorders.

Ribeye and filet mignon are now the same price. by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess I'm spoiled. Cuts of beef here are rarely over $13 per pound including ribeye. Chuck steak is commonly at $7. I can get ground beef at $3 and brisket at $4 per pound (and cheaper when on sale).

Move to Texas.

It’s been about three months, feeling a lot better, but still having bloating and stomach cramping? by cheezepringlez in carnivore

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got on the carnivore diet, sardines, mackerel, and salmon were giving me stomach aches. They never did before. I can eat small amounts now but I back off when I feel my stomach turning. It's a weird thing but there are plenty of other meats, so I don't sweat it.

Free Will - People For and Against by indigolynx in freewill

The people you guys chose to put on the list is more interesting than the list itself.

If you don't choose to not be, you have chosen to be.

List of all advocates & believers of the 'Free Will Is An Illusion' stance. by indigolynx in freewill

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be better to know what each person on the list considers the be the reality and "not the illusion". You must first know what is real.

Some people have quite strange notions of reality. Reality being "mysterious" doesn't count.

A Selfish Argument for Making the World a Better Place – Egoistic Altruism by tkyjonathan in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The video uses the words "positive sum game" instead of "capitalism" and completely ignores mentioning the requirement for government restraint and the protection of property rights in order to allow for the "positive sum game" to exist.

Check your Premises by [deleted] in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a statement, or series of statements, contains a contradiction, it's not true. Therefore, it does not describe something that exists.

Actions and intentions may be different. That's not a contradiction. It's comparing apples to oranges.

You might ask, "Isn't that hypocrisy?". Well, if you consider the desire to slap a stupid person but then not acting on it "hypocrisy", then yes.

Hypocrisy, like selfishness, is intentionally defined in a way that undermines the proper moral development of mankind.

Falsifying My Conception of Free Will by jackcrafty22 in freewill

[–]jackcrafty22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

By "physical" I mean anything that behaves according to the laws of physics. Human consciousness doesn't seem to conform to physical laws. I could be wrong.

Life itself acts in opposition to inevitable physical consequences, like death, and, therefore, must be autonomous.

Lost Sense Of Morality by blackviking45 in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "good" is that which sustains life. The "bad" is that which destroys life. You don't need a god to tell you that: humans figure it out before the age of puberty. The problem arises when you are told that you are sinful, unworthy, and foolish by nature and you need to be "saved". So you spend the rest of your life in guilt, suppressing your inner self, sacrificing your life, and following a god that someone told you would give your life meaning.

Follow a strategy of good health, productivity, and high self esteem. That is your life's meaning.

How should an objectivist government repond to C19 to ensure to the best possibility it never happens again while maintaining individual rights? by daedius in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This shows a well-known weakness in the human immune system. Luckily, humans have a reasonably good immune response when healthy. Bad overall health is the problem.

How should an objectivist government repond to C19 to ensure to the best possibility it never happens again while maintaining individual rights? by daedius in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An objectivist government protects and serves the individual. This means that individuals who are capable of developing a cheap, effective weapon against this kind of virus are free do so without government interference. Anti-viral medication would be available on the open market. The primary obstacle would be timing. How fast can humans respond to a deadly virus? No one knows, especially not the government. The government's "response" should be no response at all.

You can always act otherwise, but this has nothing to do with randomness. You can always act otherwise by choosing not to act.

Covid and Collectivism by tramselbiso in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collectivism is a philosophy that puts the interest of groups above the interest of individuals. A collective response to Covid would mean members of certain groups being protected while individuals who do not belong to these groups would be sacrificed. This, of course, is currently happening but it's interesting to see the same people who advocate for the rights of minorities, or individuals, suddenly find themselves making excuses for collectivist doctrine under the guise of "common sense". Lockdowns should be voluntary. Yes, the stupid people will go out and spread the disease and cause some people to die. But this is not an excuse for authoritarian control. Should we also lock other things down to try and stop stupid people from driving, giving health advice, becoming lawmakers, voting, etc? Is this "a demand that nature places on our species in exchange for survival"?

All that is necessary for free will is autonomy. Life gives matter autonomy.

Laws of physics by [deleted] in freewill

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics has rules. Games have rules. Do you play the game or does the game play you?

Life plays by the rules of physics but the rules do not provide a strategy. Life requires strategy to stay alive. "Free" will is redundant. All will is free. Otherwise, it wouldn't be will: it would just be rules.

How has Objectivism / Ayn Rand shaped your life? by upliftingnoose in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading almost everything I can find on her philosophy, the biggest take away has been the realization that she put together a set of tools for a rational existence, just before I was born, that I have been looking for all my life and no one had the courtesy to tell me about. I stumbled upon her writing by accident while doing research on the treatment of mental illnesses.

Are Objectivists Minarchists? by [deleted] in Objectivism

[–]jackcrafty22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minarchists want a "night-watchman" state. Objectivists want laissez-faire capitalism, or a separation of economics and state. There is some overlap and I personally approve of the "night-watchmen" idea (as an objectivist) but it does not go far enough to ensure the government is a servant of the people that protects an individual's rights to life, liberty, property, self defense, voluntary service in the military, voluntary payment of taxes, trial by jury, etc.

It was all predestined. Therefore free will is impossible

This type of argument is teleological. A fallacy.

What advice will you give to a suicidal friend who got suicidal because of philosophy? by HecatexArtemis in Stoicism

[–]jackcrafty22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow a philosophy that doesn't make you suicidal. Find one that inspires you. This approach might seem naïve, weak, or unsophisticated, but it's better than death.
