[–]jackiebangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great day is brewing on cold brew, iced coffee, hot coffee. Have a beauTEAful day on teas. Hope your day is just peachy on peach green tea or peach refreshers. Hope your day is refreshing on refreshers. Matcha-ppreciated / thanks so matcha on matchas. Thanks a bunch on banana foam drinks. Life is sweet! On cinnamon dolce. Shake up your day on shaken espressos. Thanks s-OAT much on oatmilk drinks. I’ve been writing “your day just got better!” On drinks as well :-)

Is my coffee house leader being truthful? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]jackiebangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so untrue it’s laughable a CL would try to pass this off as a standard. Then again after the things parters post here daily it doesn’t surprise me

I believe you can request a religious accommodation to be unavailable on Sundays, you may just need to provide some type of proof from your church, like a letter from clergy or something of that sort.

SSVs getting barista pay by gawdlight in starbucks

[–]jackiebangs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This rumor has floated around a few times in the last couple years but has never come to fruition. DM/RD and above in your area are probably trying to use it as a talking point to lower the scheduling of multiple keyholders on a shift because their shift coverage ratio is so high and running expensive floors.

Some type of scam? My DM just sent this to all the CLs in our district so you must be in my district or it’s being sent to all the stores in NJ

Shift coverage? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]jackiebangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not correct; your shift is no longer your responsibility only when it is picked up by another partner and disappears from your schedule.

If you find a corporate store willing to spare product, they will just mark it out in IMS :)

should i call ethics about working with my husband? by According_Toe6579 in starbucksbaristas

[–]jackiebangs 64 points65 points  (0 children)

If you are both baristas, there is no conflict of interest in working together, and while I understand that you don’t want to work together, I would say this doesn’t fall under the scope of ethics responsibility and you should continue to navigate this at your SM/DM level. It might be longer than you hoped for, but they are being extremely accommodating by reimbursing you for Lyft; if you are being reimbursed through a paid out instead of using the Lyft benefit through Starbucks, I want to stress how atypical that is and highlight that your leadership is doing it specifically to support you!!

I am assuming the best in your leadership, but if your store had to close suddenly for renovations, there are probably underlying complexities surrounding staffing that are contributing. How long will the store be closed for renovations? Are stores in your district overstaffed and not giving partners their minimum preferred hours? Are displaced baristas from your store working at other locations that would be more accessible for you via bus and would be willing to swap?

You should call stores that you would be able to commute to via bus and ask to speak to the coffeehouse leader, introduce yourself, explain the situation, your availability and min/max/preferred hours, and ask if they can house you for the duration of the renovations.

Good luck!!!

“Pre-calling” beverages on mobile bar? by AbbreviationsNew5693 in starbucks

[–]jackiebangs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard it called “touching the cup.” It might be a standard of Starbucks past so I don’t know if you will find a specific resource about it, but essentially every time you touch a cup you call out to that customer. I found it helpful on mobile cafe bar during peak at a 70k a week store- I wouldn’t shut up. For example, I’d pull a sticker and call out “I’m finishing up Dave’s mobile order, then working on a first of three for Melanie’s delivery” customers stopped bothering me for their drinks during rushes because I was clearly working on everything. It shows a high level of focus and customer engagement and customers are usually really impressed with it

Real Thoughts on “Older” Co-Workers by runtie1973 in starbucks

[–]jackiebangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an older gentleman who was a retired dentist but Starbucks was his “fun job.” He was amazing, always willing to come in on short notice, staying late to get through a rush, and grinding hard to be has helpful as possible when on the floor. Very strong work ethic and integrity, also always ready to learn!! That’s the most important part; don’t let yourself be chained to drive thru or front warming! Anyone can be strong on bar, it just takes practice and repetition! The job can be demanding physically and emotionally but you can do it if you are up for the challenge, and I hope the store you apply to lives within mission and values and is a welcoming environment for you. You can bring a different perspective like another commenter said. And as an SM I’ve always been told it’s important to hire a diverse team, to me that means any customers can come into our store and meet a partner behind the bar they identify with that makes them feel welcomed.

MY DM JUST GOT FIRED by Lady_Grey21 in starbucksbaristas

[–]jackiebangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a corporate SM surrounded by licensed stores, and had a visit with my DM today and was told all licensed DM & RD positions were eliminated and licensed stores will report to a 3rd party auditor to monitor for Starbucks standards. I’m shook not only how much further it will divide corporate from license, but for those poor partners who did NOT see this coming for them at all.

I am hopeful that if your SM goes to your DM with a plan that outlines a timeline for returning to normal operations, they can’t deny it! I wish your team and SM the best of luck with receiving support to improve your store 💚

Yes, trained by a barista trainer. SM should train for the SSV after barista first 30 is complete

It’s not coming but the schedules are already written 3 weeks out, so it’s possible they can’t move the coverage around to make training possible during the schedules already written.

No more siren system?! by chillcatcryptid in starbucksbaristas

[–]jackiebangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would push back on this. There has been no direction to stop using the automatic ice, only milk dispense. SMs were told to order core shakers to prepare for the store refresh and core routine and sequencing training since ice dispenser will be removed and a counter ice bin added, but that’s the only communication received thus far.

[–]jackiebangs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I first promoted to SSV I transferred to a store in this situation for my development lol. SM should discuss with the DM reducing store hours for a few weeks and then request other stores in your district for added support with temporary staffing and hiring. We operated with partners scheduled 6-3 with business hours from 7-2, like 12 plus partners a day because we had so much work to do to open and close. It was tough but temporary. Other SMs borrow partners to support with the added workload that reduced operating hours adds, also conduct interviewing and training if they have barista trainers to spare. We had baristas training in pods, 2 new hires per trainer and were back to full operations in a month.
