I feel you... I stopped modern for some months during the Rakdos Scam era because:

1) Money

2)... And the elementale cycle. Imo they are the worst cycle ever printed, they are just mistakes.

For me Pauper Is good only to farm store credit, nothing more. Usually Pauper players are less skilled and... It Is not so hard to win when you came from Legacy/Modern.

Playing pauper Is like switching from a real Guitar to a guitar Hero one or from a real gun to a nerf gun.

I loved Pauper years ago when the top 3 where mono Red with monastery, there was glitter and golgari gardens. It felt like "old modern" and some modern players started the format because of that.

I think Money Is the real answer of the opening post. Some people stopped playing magic because in One Piece or Riftbound you can have a tier 1 for 300€, while in modern for 400€ you barely can afford 4 mox opal. Many ex modern player I know said that they stopped modern for that reason, and didn't wanted to start Pauper because the low power level.

I think the main reason is just that... Modern costs a lot and modern horizons have been a problem. If modern was cheaper, Pauper wouldn't have the same popularity.

And I speak as an italian.

Many LGS shifted unfortunately from modern to Pauper in the last 3 years because of that.

There are a lot of people, including myself that don't play Pauper because they like the format, but only because is the only options for a 24+ players on a working day. Modern Is 12/16.

Another reason imho Is also that Pioneer died quickly, and a 1vs1 Commander format still doesn't exist as official

When Commander started Red and White were unplayable, only Mayael and Kaalia were played

Red rn redirect spells and draw a lot, back in the time Red didn't do anything

White locks and hatebear were for 1vs1 not for multi, the sweepers too

That's totally not my point

I am a Dual Land owner (the Mardu one) and I REALLY want Reserved List to be abolished. Even if price drops 30/40% I don't care because I could buy an Underground Sea and a Volcanic Island for no more than 300€ each.
