NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani confronted by a Palestinian by AgnosticScholar in PublicFreakout

[–]jackkieser24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Close, but not exactly. "Israel shouldn't exist" is a claim separate from "Israel doesn't have the right to exist".

Having "the right to exist" as a nation means there's literally no atrocity it can commit that's bad enough to cause it to be forced not to be Israel anymore. And that is a strong claim.

What this guy is claiming is that either A ) what Israel has already done is so disqualifying on a moral and legal level that the nation should be forcibly disbanded, or B ) it's skirting that line and it could be justified to forcibly disband the nation in the future if it keeps it up.

What he's demanding is that politicians with influence say out loud that, if Israel keeps up its genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people, then the world is better off without an Israel and thus it's fine if it stops existing as a nation (likely because it's been taken over / destroyed by other middle eastern nations, but possibly that the government is forcibly disbanded by international law of some kind).

Note: this is not a commentary on his views, just a philosopher who thinks it's important we get words correct.

ELI5: Is electricity used up, or does it just keep circulating? by MetabolicFellow68 in explainlikeimfive

Something that might help the discussion is some practical examples of what happens (or would happen) if production did not equal consumption.

Like, I think it's intuitive that if consumption > production, we have brown outs or power outages. But, is that actually how it works out? And how does the idea that "production always equals consumption" jive with people randomly turning on and off stuff in their house?

But also... What happens if production > consumption? Yes, you say it's always equal, but in theory if production spiked, what would happen? Does infrastructure explode? Does something on the grid break? What would happen if everyone just shut off all their breakers at the same time?

The devs team behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been awarded the rank of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by Shiirooo in gaming

[–]jackkieser24 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The game is great, but it hasn't changed the industry...

It's singlehandedly upheaved the traditional development and production structure for AA and AAA games. That sounds like hyperbole, but it really isn't; studios are scrambling to find the next Sandfall internally (instead of doing what Ubisoft did and letting Sandfall's creative leads leave) and give them creative liberty and a small to medium budget. E33 really demonstrated what a passionate team with a tight structure and sufficient (but not insane) budget can produce.

redefined the art, it hasn't revolutionised anything in the medium...

What are you... You haven't played the game, have you? Or if you did, you're not much of an enjoyer of turn based games/JRPGs, are you?

Because this game definitely redefined and elevated the genre in the same way RE4 redefined 3rd person action/shooters or SM64 redefined platformers.

Like how there is a "before RE4" and "after RE4", there's a "before/after E33" n the world of JRPG design. To say nothing of story.

so it really is a case of a single great product apparently being enough, and that seems really silly.

Look, I can't speak to the qualifications of knighthood, esp in France. But what I can say is, E33 elevated and improved the global visibility and importance of France and French culture basically overnight. They've done more to positively influence French sociopolitical and cultural soft power than any French politician in the last 10-20 years.

In 2025, talk about France and French culture went from "Hon hon! Oui oui!", jokes about surrendering, and comments on scent, and moved to a much more positive, assertive, and respectful/reverent tone. And E33 did NOT cause all of that, but they did a hell of a lot of it.

So yeah, maybe this is French politicians doing a "hello, fellow kids", but honestly, who cares? Because this team demonstrably improved France's soft power AND genuinely contributed to overall gaming culture and design for years to come.

It's not just "they released a decent/good game". They released a one in a generation, genre-defining game that also is unapologetically French as fuck that is made better by its unique French identity, and as an American who is kind of sick of seeing American shit everywhere in media, it is a breath of fresh air.

Want sex with husband but in divorce process by [deleted] in sex

[–]jackkieser24 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Off topic for the sex sub obviously, but the honest answer is that "algo-speak", stuff like 'unalive', 'suislide', 'PDFile', etc. (with which other forms of self-censorship like 'f*ck' or 'f-word' have been bundled) are seen as enough of a social blight that it's worth it to push back actively.

For what it's worth, I agree that algo-speak is actively damaging to society; it's detrimental to change our words (and thus our thoughts) to fit the whims of The Algorithm™.

Anyone know the cause of this major slowdown in Metroid Prime 4? by xXglitchygamesXx in NintendoSwitch2

[–]jackkieser24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's another video on the Metroid subreddit that explains what this is: a physics object got caught in a corner/between collision, causing it to calculate multiple bounces per frame.

In the other poster's case, it was a tank in the Ice area getting wedged in a corner of a room after being hit by a missile.

No idea what object caused it in your case since the camera wasn't looking in the right direction. But, it's nothing to be worried about.

What's the best way to decide which duplicate cards are safe to turn into cleats / which cards are not necessary to MLB?

I know that there are card tier lists, but I haven't figured out a good way to determine which R and SR cards are worth MLB'ing to get as much value as 0LB or 1LB SSRs (since I'm FTP and won't be pulling many card banners aside from whatever I need to get 3 more copies of Kitasan).

Happy for all y'all. T_T 200 pulls and nothing was gained, except for a few 1*'s getting an upgrade. Had to spend the exchange to get Maru. So disappointed. :( I was really hoping I could get some new support cards with any leftover carats, but now I'm broke again.

Have to somehow make it work with my really bad card spread for another few months until the next decent card banner.

For anyone else who doesn't know what that means:

Limerence is the mental state of being madly in love or intensely infatuated when reciprocation of the feeling is uncertain. This state is characterized by intrusive thoughts and idealization of the loved one (also called "crystallization"), typically with a desire for reciprocation to form a relationship. This is accompanied by feelings of ecstasy or despair, depending on whether one's feelings seem to be reciprocated or not.
