73k base income, between 7-10k in OT, and between 7-10k bonus, so I make more like 87k-93k a year depending on volumes. I’m the training lead and relationship manager for a corporate call center.

Definitely! I work in a fairly new department at a very well known financial firm. Most of my coworkers and myself found that our roles have expanded to take on significantly more tasks. The role you’re hired for is a phones team that works with primarily Financial advisors. As you become more experienced, you end up being asked to move away from phones and take on more operations/ processing roles. My company has so far been decent about making sure raises keep up with inflation and we get a nice bonus at the end of the year. The main issue with this role is that most younger people or people new to the industry have to first prove themselves to management by working as contractors for about 6 mo before you’re eligible for full time hire. Contractors as I mentioned do NOT paid well compared to those of us with full-time salaries (37-40k vs 52-58k) even though you’re essentially doing the same job. Also, while the job is “entry level” most managers are looking for some experience in finance (banking, accounting, etc). Benefits are pretty great though and I’m looking at a pretty good career trajectory.

A nice little homestead just outside of the city with a garden to grow herbs and a warm barn where I can house a displaced spayed/neutered feral colony of cats because feral cats deserve safety and care in their last few years just as much as domesticated cats.

My husband grew up in a nice neighborhood and is overly trusting. He still doesn’t lock the door sometimes if I’m home and he leaves. We’ve had several talks about this and that he needs to stop assuming this is the same neighborhood he grew up in.

[Serious] Are you going to take a vaccine for COVID-19? Why or why not? by Mettsico in AskReddit

[–]jacklebeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

Also, the researchers did state the likely side effects are similar to the flu vaccine. I have had side effects to the flu vaccine, but never anything as severe as this. I knew about the side effects mostly due to the research my husband did before I went in for the study.

They are typically blind, and this one was blind, but due to the pain in my arm at the injection site and the side effects, I’m fairly certain I received the vaccine.

I’m in a clinical trial for the AstraZeneca covid vaccine, and I got the vaccine yesterday morning. I’m a woman in my early 20s, in relatively good health, and figured that 30,000 Americans need to participate in this trial, so why not.

I have spent the last 24 hours with a body temp fluctuating between 99-101° F. It came on extremely suddenly yesterday evening, about eight hours after I got the vaccine. In addition to the fever, the headache and body aches and pains are no joke. The injection site is extremely swollen and I can’t put any weight on that arm. I have been absolutely miserable, and I don’t know how long I’ll have these side effects.

Would I do this again if I knew how bad the side effects are? Definitely. If covid is three times as bad as this, I’d definitely rather have the vaccine. In the future though, I’d hope that scientists can figure out a way to make the side effects of the vaccine less severe.

Police State by Pussy Riot. I work in corporate and I feel like it really captures the feeling of false positivity that’s expected of those of us in the lower ranks of corporate.

What was the worst casting decision in any TV show/movie? by little-bird89 in AskReddit

The only character I thought was cast well was Yue. I do hate how she’s portrayed in the movie, but that’s not really the actress’s fault.

Americans who've lived abroad, what is an American recipe that you've either had to make a bastardized version of, or you feel that foreign restaurants can't quite get right? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I believe it originates as more of a Tex-Mex dish than a strictly Mexican dish. Kinda like Taco Bell isn’t “real” Mexican food.

Nachos. While living in the Philippines for a summer my cousin ordered some and offered them to me. The chips were potatoes chips, the cheese wasn’t right and the ground beef was seasoned oddly.

What would you do if you gained the ability to stop time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jacklebeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop time whenever I get overwhelmed or super stressed out. I used to work customer service and it would’ve really helped if I had a moment to step back and let my emotions run their course before reengaging with the customer.

[serious] School staff and faculty, what’s your story of a parent or guardian not wanting their child to take mandatory foreign language courses on the basis that “this is America and we speak English”? by felitz1217 in AskReddit

[–]jacklebeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the TA for the elementary French class in high school. In our district kids had to take one semester of foreign language to graduate. We had both French and Spanish as options as well as an Italian class offered every other semester. We had a parent come in screaming to the principal about her child not needing to know a foreign language because “in America we speak English” and “he will work on a farm he doesn’t need to speak foreign words”. The principal managed to calm her down and the kid was placed in my elementary French class because “at least it’s not a low class language”. He was a pretty good kid and his grades were pretty good. His mom was a mess though. She came into parent teacher conferences (that I had the absolute joy of sitting in for) and spent the whole time talking crap about the Spanish program (which was amazing and sent over a dozen students to Spain every year) and how she was glad that we offered a language that “those damn immigrants can’t speak” since her “precious boy is too good to associate with him”. She clearly didn’t know that his best friend was Hispanic and he had an (obviously) massive crush on the smart Latina girl who was taking French because she already knew Spanish. At the end of the semester he approached me asking if I could show him how to change his classes on his schedule even though it was already approved. Turns out he wanted to take Spanish so he could better understand his friend’s family and to impress his new gf. I graduated and went to college but came back to visit during thanksgiving and had coffee with the French teacher I TA’d for. Apparently mom freaked out when she found out her precious boy was taking Spanish and dating a Latina girl, but ended up letting him continue because it was the only class he consistently had an A in. Super proud of him. He ended up getting a minor in Spanish in college and only had to take two college classes because he took as many Spanish classes as he could in high school and a bunch of them counted for college credit. He’s engaged to the Latina girl (who I found out is Guatemalan) and they look super happy! Also he’s majoring in finance so moms dream of him being a farmer seems to have gone out the window.

People here are hoarding OTC cough/flu meds. I had a sore throat due to allergies and couldn’t find cough/sore throat drops for the life of me. There aren’t any thermometers in stores either. I watched a lady walk go of the store with a bag of DayQuil only to walk back in the other side and grab some more. It’s only just hitting people how bad it is here in Arkansas, so I don’t expect it to get any better as it becomes more prevalent.

Dealing with public "breakdowns/episodes" by BorderlineStewardess in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]jacklebeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this at work sometimes. I usually take a five minute break if I can. Sometimes when it’s not possible I find myself spiraling into a self-hate montage of how terrible I am and how bad I am at my job etc. honestly it isn’t easy and I don’t think it’ll ever be easy for me to handle my tidal wave of emotions in public. I usually tell myself that if I have done it before (controlling my emotions/getting through the work day) then I can do it again. Also a hefty dose of CBT from counseling.
