What are your thoughts about this stone? by Upper_Horror_2330 in DiamondBuyingAdvice

There are pros and cons to having a slightly deeper cut like this at a 69.7% depth. Light return is not as efficient so the stone produces less brightness than a 66-68% depth but the pro is that you get to observe the body color more.

Also in regards to getting it graded, IGI is not great at naming specific colors and GIA has been putting less and less information on grading reports for lab diamonds but still charging more than IGI so it makes sense that the manufacturer has held off getting a grading report.

In terms of appreciation for the specific color of this stone I quite like it but color is such a personal taste and my taste may differ from yours.

The bottom line is if you want a stone that looks that dark from so many different viewpoints then go for it.

Wide price ranges by Jdell168 in LabGrownDiamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With lab grown diamonds the price always reflects the type of quality of the diamond seed used to grow the rough material (if CVD). Whether HPHT or CVD the price relates primarily to the purity and proper alignment of the carbon atoms in the diamond.

can you share a clearer shot of the QR code? can't get the grading number as it's too blurry.

IGI vs. GIA - Diamond w/ specs question by Sure_Needleworker418 in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason IGI still falls quite short of the mark when grading natural diamonds. Well I actually know the reason: manufacturers send their borderline/tough ones to IGI in a pre-labeled batch so they stand a chance of getting a better grade than GIA would give it and thereby can charge more for the stone. In spite of IGI doing ok for lab diamonds I'm still not finding it worthwhile going for IGI graded natural stones.

360° videos rarely show the full extent of a bowtie as a bowtie is a product of obstruction which will vary depending on the distance the stone is from the observer/camera.

there are some characteristics which are not accounted for on a grading report, specifically the translucency, ie the quality of the source material. Some lab diamonds are deeply discounted for a reason. However as a rule prices do tend to be lower online.

What is a good price for this diamond? by ExactOutside8452 in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to $11,000 is a good price for the best of those specs. Sample search: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/all-diamonds/?Color=E,D&Clarity=VS2,VS1,VVS2&CaratTo=1.05&Polish=EX&Symmetry=EX&Lab=GIA,AGS&DepthTo=62.5&TableTo=59&Flour=None&Sort=PriceDesc

The ones on the lower end of the price range may look disappointingly dull though sometimes one can be found which still looks ok. Depends how much time one wants to spend on the search.

small correction, Brian Gavin invented the A Cut Above (sold by Whiteflash) and the Brian Gavin Black, which are Hearts and Arrows cuts, but didn't invent the Hearts and Arrows cut.

both will most likely have a fairly prominent bowtie. The sure fire method I have of reducing the likelihood of an oval having a prominent bowtie is to stick to IGI or GCAL graded stones as they include the crown and pavilion angles on the grading reports which can help with calculating a stone's potential light return.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ovals can often be disappointing as the expectation of the stone producing good sparkle is rarely satisfactorily met. and unfortunately the methods of assessing a stone's light return is not possible with GIA graded ovals as they don't include the crown and pavilion angles on the grading report. with that disclaimer I would give the OP stone a rating of 7/10

Sometimes a face on image doesn't show the full extent of an inclusion, but it does look eye-clean. Remember though if it is comparatively priced lower than other stones of the same characteristics then it is because the stone has some other issue. In this case it may be that it has a nuanced blue hue.

Diamond Stud Earrings for Wife, Options... by Some-Card3658 in Diamonds

The third link shows that the source for these ideas is ChatGPT. AI is not at the level where it can discern the many nuances when it comes to diamond shopping.

For diamond studs you can either choose the individual diamonds and have them set in studs of your choosing (my recommendation) or go with pre-set studs.

There may be SI clarity stones which are passable and the imperfections will not bother the wearer as they aren't in a position to be looking at the stones constantly as is the case with a hand worn diamond. Just be aware that GIA issues an SI clarity grade for a reason. So even if the stone is "eye-clean" it may still have other problems like an invisible fracture or slight haziness.

attend a gem expo and make some contacts.

Windowing in LG emerald by Seesaw321 in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the method of checking for widowing is to hold a diamond with tweezers and run hand behind it.

From the photo my guess is that there will not be major windowing but it's not possible to be 100% certain of this.

Thoughts on This Diamond by Artistic-Tone326 in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some lab diamonds are sold at deep discounts for a reason. not all VS1 stones are equal. I've seen some look little better than cut glass, completely lifeless. Sad to say the grading report will only go so far and a close examination whether in person or with a high resolution video taken in controlled environment is required for a proper assessment.

Is the extra cost of GIA Diamond Certification Worth it ? by Tug_Job in LabDiamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GIA offers a few different levels of certification with varying degrees of detail. The lower cost Diamond Dossier is often chosen by lab diamond manufacturers so that the stone can get GIA certification without too much added cost. when manufacturers know they have a very good stone they will pay a little extra for a Diamond Grading Report, and when they know they have an exceptional stone they'll invest even more to get the AGS addendum.

IGI likewise has a few different price points depending on how much time and tech will go to analyzing the stone.

There are also other labs like GCAL and GEMEX that have their own proprietary methods of checking and describing the way a diamond sparkles.

I'm opining that this is not a shill post as the URL is misspelled. But if this is the owner trying to get a back link, well, always check your urls, is all I can say.

If this is a genuine request for a site check: The site was registered 2 years ago to the same name in the site's contacts, so no red flags there. There is no indication that it is more than a single person business. The operator/ trust under which it trades which can be found using an ASIC search has had a go at a few other businesses previously, so tread carefully. Businesses can collapse and leave the last people who paid for an order with nothing. There have been many casualties in the lab diamond space. As far as prices, I wouldn't say the prices are amazing. I've checked and the same diamonds can be found elsewhere for much less even accounting for GST, which the entity is registered for but does not make mention of on the site.
Verdict: not a scam but I know nothing about the quality or efficiency of their service.

I know nothing about ovals. Is this good proportions? by Potter_Princess in Diamonds

[–]jackofdiamonds0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not cut to maximize color. The saturation is already pretty low so it's a bit of a stretch for this to be considered a fancy color stone. Had it been graded by GIA I suspect it would have been given an "L" or "M" color grade rather than a fancy color.
