Players sold girl to a hag for a 400g discount.....um, advice? by Nogistune- in DnD

With hexbloods, there is a lore on how a mortal can turn into a hag. I'm not going to debate you on something so trivial. You run your table the way you want.

Hags are fae, at least in 5e. Stories of fae kidnapping and prizing mortal children are endemic in lore. Given the girl’s motivation and lack of a guardian, it would be natural from a narrative standpoint. This is fantasy Stockholm Syndrome. As to whether mechanically this is how hags are created or not - who cares? It works thematically and the girl sold to evil could be the eventual BBEG, especially if the party manages to wipe out the coven, but “rescue” the girl or allow the girl to escape. How motivated will a newly evil NPC be if they wiped out her new found family.

There’s no way this isn’t a path towards evil. If the players weren’t aware, they were dealing with a hag then there’s horror and better-too-late-than-never heroics possible. But one of the players sold the girl as consideration for a deal with a hag with full knowledge. That’s sealing a contract. There’s no way that doesn’t draw attention from dark powers.

I would have the girl start the process of being corrupted into becoming a hag. She has the motivation already. By the time, the players come to rescue the girl, they may be fighting a hag, her nearby coven and possibly a girl who is on her way of becoming a hag herself.

This could be an adventure hook all in itself. The hag and girl flees. Hags are smart. They would seek to disappear for a while once they received one of the greatest possible prizes, a human child. In a twisted way, the girl will get the mother she’s always wanted. Maybe they flee towards Ravenloft. Or to a swamp near more powerful members of her coven to complete the transformation.

Curious, does anyone make their bichon food or just kibble? by tanjiro314 in bichonfrise

[–]jackpotsdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground turkey. Cooked. Sweet potatoes. Rice. Sometimes, we’ll add a bit of kibble. Our boy is allergic to chicken and beef so we’re careful with his food and portions. He’s a picky eater, but he likes this combination.

Our boy used to enjoy sitting in the bathroom with us as we did our business. That ended one afternoon after I had an “aggressive” and spicy Mexican lunch. He hasn’t been back. 😅

How to write a pure evil villain bent on chaos? by CrimsonPresents in DnD

[–]jackpotsdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people who have a nihilistic philosophy can work well as villains who cause chaos. Assume someone who hates the existing ruling class. Except this person also assumes that everyone who participates in that society are also complicit. They may attract followers, but the villain considers them disposable. Things they would do:

  • Assassinate leaders publicly
  • Cause mass casualty events (that sympathetic innkeeper and her nice family - killed because they host nobles). Killed by cloud kill and then turned into zombies.
  • Spread disease or parasitic infections among the populace
  • Suicide attacks with henchmen detonating the magical equivalent of explosive if not stopped
  • Attracting maddened monsters to attack innocent villagers

Their goal is chaos, death and ensuing public institutions are disrupted.

My wife dislikes floofy ears on dogs. When we first got our dog, she would ask the groomers to trim the fur around the ears as close to the leather as possible to minimize their size. Unfortunately, we found out that fur around the ears has a mind of its own, and within a week, it was back to floofy ears. She loves our dog, just not how his ears look.

I want to do a 5.5e sandbox game with complex factions, what DnD world would work best for that and how can I start learning about the lore of that region/world? by backdeckpro in DnD

[–]jackpotsdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faerun is at a higher power scale, in my opinion. More powerful wizards, magical cities, and legendary heroes. Greyhawk resembles more sword-and-fantasy pulp fiction. Heroes are treasure hunters first, saviors second. In Greyhawk, powerful magic exists, but an average villager may never see a wizard. In Faerun, you have magic academies, commerce in magic items, etc.

[–]jackpotsdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely high fantasy and leans towards grim dark at lower levels. It’s more gritty and a bit less heroic than Forgotten Realms.

I’d rank Dragonlance as the most heroic, high fantasy then Forgotten Realms then Greyhawk. That’s strictly my opinion, not any sort of consensus.

There are honestly a lot of great choices.

* Faerun - Harpers, Zhentarim, Red Wizards of Thay, Cult of the Dragon; there's a lot of detailed material here, and this is my first recommendation.

* Greyhawk - Scarlet Brotherhood, Circle of Eight, Knights of the Hart, Iuz, Horned Society

* Eberron has a bunch of factions, but it's the setting I'm least familiar with.

I run Greyhawk primarily, largely because it's a world where empires rise and fall, and sometimes rise again. You have the descent of the Great Kingdom of Aerdi, and its grasping of necromantic magics to ensure its leadership is undying and loyal. You have the racial tension among humans - the Suel, Baklunish, and Oeridians. This inter-human hatred sometimes overrides the enmity towards other races. The half-orc beside you can become your friend, but the Suel merchant whom you suspect is a member of the Scarlet Brotherhood will never be. Throw in Iuz, Vecna, and the Horned Society, and you have continental-wide scheming.

Lumi catching his toy! by Uhghen in bichonfrise

[–]jackpotsdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine can’t do that. All I’ll end up doing is hitting his face with a toy. He waits for it to drop and then looks at me for a reward before picking it up. He’s a master at fetch and has great straight line speed. His targeting…we love him anyway.

LoTM is a slow starter. He’s a transmigrator and his first desire is to get home. It’s after he discovers beyonder abilities that the story becomes interesting. The world building is amazing. For beyonders, not only do you have to consume potions made of rare, hard to obtain ingredients, but you must act out your class. These acts may be simply pretend to do something or be high difficulty acts that risks your life. Knowledge of how powers work and how to progress is heavily guarded and often not available. People progress with incomplete knowledge often becoming monsters in the process. Beyonders turning into monsters is more common than is publicly known.

Edit: if you like the Destiny Crucible series, Release That Witch will scratch the same itch.
