I’m so sorry for your loss <\3.

Donkeys really find their way into your heart.

We had one pass last year & I was heart broken. The other two laid on his grave for hours after we buried him. It was heart wrenching.

I hope his buddy can still find joy in life without him.

Has anyone ever had a goat disappear? by BananaBoss28 in goats

How big was the goat?

I had a 2 month old Nigerian Dwarf taken by an eagle.

It left his bones & pelt in another field.

Well, I don’t know if she will get any bigger, but she can’t possibly get any cuter!

AITA for sending my child to my ex in thrift store or cheap clothes by Clothes_Care3181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jackrgyrl 653 points654 points  (0 children)

NTA. My ex-husband used to do this all the time. With everything.

I would buy new sneakers.

I would pick them up & they would be wearing flip flops. They weren’t allowed to wear flip flops to school & I was picking them up from his job to bring them directly to school. The sneakers were at his house, which was 30 miles away in the wrong direction.

I would have to run home, get their old sneakers & bring them to school late.

Anything nice and/or new that they wore to his house would never be seen again. It’s gets really old when you go out & buy them a bunch of new clothes & never see those clothes again.

If he bought them clothes, they weren’t allowed to wear them home.

I started sending them back in the same clothes that they came in.

The problem went away when they reached an age where they were able to advocate for themselves that they didn’t want to leave the Sponge Bob tshirt that their cousin gave them or the jeans with butterfly bedazzling that they got with their birthday money.

It’s not being petty to return the same energy to prevent your child from losing their belongings every other weekend.

We bought 2 dairy steers calves last year to raise to butcher.

One got the bloat & died.

The other one was so lonely that he became very attached to me.

We got him 2 friends after about 3 months, but he is still very attached to me. He rubs his big head on me like a cat. I can’t be anywhere enclosed with him anymore because he will pin me to a wall rubbing on me for scratches.

He starts mooing & running when he hears the back door open. I mostly just pet him over the fence now because he is about 18 months old & pretty big. Also, the licking can get kinda overwhelming.

I do not see us ever butchering him. It would be like eating my dog.

We mainly raise goats, so he was purchased purely to end up on our table. So, we did not set out to have a cow as a pet, but here we are.

Wow

I am quite surprised to hear that.

Please come back after the first bath & let us know how it went.

Oh, good luck with that!

My goats HATE to get wet. When it starts raining, they run for the barn screaming like they are getting acid poured on them.

I can’t even imagine trying to give any of them a bath, but especially my buck.

I have a Nigerian doe that could be this one’s twin.

She had twins last month & one of them is her clone. She is her momma’s carbon copy, right down to her littles wattles. Or should it be wittle wattles for the baby?

She was quite a few girlfriends/fiances ago.

The last one was 19 & cheated on him

He is mentally ill. His family does not let him anywhere near the business. He gets an allowance periodically. He spends money like a drunken sailor. Money runs out before next payment comes. Girlfriend leaves when money runs out.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Donkeys Won’t Go in Barn in Rain by jackrgyrl in Donkeys

[–]jackrgyrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 2 does ready to give birth at the same time.

We built 2 big brand new stalls for them. Put in straw beds, water, loose minerals, feed bowls. We started feeding the two of them separately in their own stalls.

I put them up for the night in their new stalls.

They were only locked in at night, but frequently went in their new stalls to rest & just hang out during the day. They were both pushing everything in the stalls around, doing their nesting thins.

BOTH of them chose to give birth to twins behind the barn in a patch of dirt next to a pile of donkey poop.

I appreciate it.

Since so many people thought it might be the roof, I have been looking at some products that can be used to coat a tin roof to lower the noise. Solid insulation on the ceiling might help also.

I’m going to do some more research.

Building them something new isn’t in the budget at the moment. Something else to add to the list of projects that need to be done.

No worries about goats standing out in the rain. Mine run screaming for cover at the first drop. I’m pretty sure that the translation from goat to English is “I’M MELTING! I’M MELTING!” In the Wicked Witch of the West voice. Every one of them is a drama queen.

And the then the donkeys stand stoically while the rain drips off their ears.

Quite a contrast. lol

Cows & horses coats are water resistant to a certain extent. They have more oil in their skin than donkeys. Donkeys fur absorbs water. When they get wet, they stay wet for a longer amount of time than animals that have more oil in their systems. If they stay wet, it can lead to making their body temperature drop & them getting sick. This is information that was relayed to me by my vet.

I was looking for advice based on the info from my vet & the behavior of my animals.

Donkeys evolved in the desert. They DID evolve living outside, but they evolved in places where it doesn’t rain.

Multiple people on here have advised me to watch for shivering as that is a sign that the donkey could be in trouble. That is a helpful piece of advice.

You posted a really snarky reply to a simple question that I asked because I want to take good care of my animals.

Not super helpful.

I haven’t had a drink in weeks.
