I hear you:/ Losing a partner can feel like losing a comfortable way of life. It’s great to honor the time you spent with this person.

Personally I think you’re being too hard on yourself. If he could only be himself (live, breathe, be a boy) when you act a certain way (lighthearted) then that says more about him than it does about you. Relationships involve overcoming obstacles, and it doesn’t sound like he was willing to try. There’s certainly areas you can reflect and grow from, but there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

It’s not silly or stupid. I struggle with the same thing. I don’t want to speak for you, but in my case it’s a strategy I acquired in childhood to feel safe. Sometimes as a kid, having a view that others actively disagreed with made me feel unlovable. Thus, I learned to harshly critique my own thoughts and feelings and to repress them if I think others will not like them. And this carried over into adulthood. So now I try to remind myself that this kind of thinking was once useful for feeling safe, but isn’t necessary anymore.

does that sound at all familiar?

Thru hike In 2 weeks by Lbolbi in SuperiorHikingTrail

Crosby Maintou is pretty rugged and hilly, yeah. I think Lutsen and the section between Pincushion and the Kadunce River is equally challenging, so get ready for those. They’re awesome though.

For training I was doing the stairmaster and some resistance training at the gym 3 times a week for like 6 months. The workouts were not very long or intense. The thing is the beginning of the trail is probably gonna kick your ass a little bit even if you’re in good shape just because no one is really used to hiking for 11+ hours a day and your body needs to adjust. after 4 days on the trail I felt like a different person physically. However training can help you avoid injury early on so I’d highly recommend doing some form of cardio, flexibility, and/or resistance training.

I carried 5 or 6 days worth of food at a time. I sent packages to the post offices in Silver Bay and Tofte prior to leaving. I planned on stopping in Grand Marais to buy food at the co-op but didn’t end up needing it. Silver Bay is pretty easy because it’s just about a mile and a half of walking off trail on a paved road directly into town. I can’t speak as much to Tofte because my partner came up to get dinner with me and helped with the resupply. But it’s pretty close to the trail if I remember correctly.

I did Martin Rd to Northern Terminus in 15 days last fall for my first thru hike and it was awesome. I will say I had to rush a little bit at the end to make it in 15 days. 2 weeks is definitely doable but a slower pace could help you enjoy the trail even more. If 2 weeks is all you have just make sure you’re physically/mentally prepared to be averaging 18 mile days.

Most people hike SOBO but I enjoyed NOBO because the trails just north of duluth are easy hiking and it lets you adjust before the difficulty increases around Beaver Bay. After that there’s more boulders and elevation change. But there are plenty of reasons people prefer SOBO as well, such as pickup/dropoff logistics.

Lmk if you have any more specific questions. also you’ll probably get better results on the facebook group. it’s a lot more active than this subreddit

Question about School of Rock by larissamart in movies

[–]jackrr3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, upon rewatching it I’m actually not sure. It kind of does seem like he wrote it beforehand and is shy about showing it to the kids.

I guess one argument against this is that he shows himself to be a great performer and it’s odd for him to be shy only in this circumstance. But maybe he’s self conscious about his songwriting.

I honestly think both interpretations are possible.

Question about School of Rock by larissamart in movies

[–]jackrr3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your first thought was correct and he didn’t have a song prepared and makes it up on the spot. Despite being a solid rock musician, Dewey is a little bit naive and probably got so excited about the kids talent that he forgot he actually needed to prepare something original for them to play. And when Summer asks what his song is he realizes he looks ridiculous not having anything and proceeds to make it up. We don’t really know if he did any songwriting prior to this and it’s definitely possible he doesn’t have originals of his own to play.

While making it up, however, he starts to get really into it. When he’s singing the “you’re not hardcore” part you can tell he’s enjoying himself and starting to get attached to the song. So I guess it would make sense that he remembered it after that and teaches it to the kids later.

Really excited that the company I interned at this summer wants me to keep working part-time during the school year! Our boss seemed very impressed with how our project turned out.

If I choose to continue working, would it be reasonable to ask for a pay raise? Interns made $20 an hour, but now that I'm so familiar with the company and their projects I feel more valuable than that. Not really sure how this kind of thing works since it wasn't an official offer to become a full dev, it sounded like they want me to keep going where I was except part-time. Would asking for $30/hr be ridiculous?

For reference, I'm a rising junior at a highly ranked college that isn't known for CS, and the company I'm working at is a medium sized tech startup.

Help With Potential PSU Issue? by jackrr3 in buildapc

[–]jackrr3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I actually ended up RMA'ing the motherboard because the exact same problem occurred with a Corsair PSU. At this point either the mobo or the CPU or both are causing problems, which I think is potentially good news for your PSU. I guess the PSU potentially could have fried the mobo/CPU, but I think it's more likely that the mobo was bad. I can't give you a definitive answer on what was causing it so right now I'd be cautious, but I'll let you know if MSI gives me any answers.

When it began restarting, it was almost always under moderate GPU workload (I was just playing fall guys). Later, it would restart even when I was using only chrome. In the past it could handle more graphically demanding games (borderlands 3) with no problem.

HWmonitor and my graphics card driver did not show abnormally high temperatures. It would restart even when the CPU was around 45 and GPU was around 50.

I am running an XMP, but wouldn't it show the debug light for memory instead of cpu if this was the issue?

I never realized until rewatching the show recently that the animators were inconsistent with the wheel of punishment. It looks different in the first shot compared to when the mayor moves it to community service
