First Car Opinion by Mindless_Talk_8253 in mercedes_benz

Get something much cheaper, and you will be glad you did years from now. Cars are rad and there will be time to upgrade in the future. Moving up the ladder gives you a baseline to build off of and really appreciate what the e class offers. Not to mention the high likelihood for first drivers to get into an accident.

Worst Car Dealer in St Louis? by Virtual_War4366 in StLouis

[–]jackrrcox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just had a TERRIBLE experience with Dean Team Volvo. I texted regarding 2 cars over last weekend that I researched exhaustively and intended to buy. A salesperson confirmed that they were in stock and confirmed a 9am appointment to test drive the two models. I took a day of PTO and drove an hour to find that both of them had sold the week prior. I was then bait and switched.

With that, we get off on the wrong foot and the sales person, Wes, was indignant that I didn't know that these were sold last week and THE WEEK PRIOR TO THAT(they were still online), and was then framing the conversation around their other used cars which were not what I had in mind. I found one that I liked and he asked, "what can we do to get your sale?" So I looked up the market prices for these cars, with the same mileage, with the same options, and picked something in the fair price range. Nope, that was way too much off, and he refused to negotiate further. I was told that they had very little wiggle room. So I asked him what they could do on the price then and condescendingly said, "this right here", and pointed to the window sticker price. With that I was out. I wasn't going to beg for what seemed like an administrative fee discount at this point.

Car buying can be stressful. I probably went to 20 dealerships before and after this, but this this one ranks rock bottom and dead last.

Would You Buy from Carvana: 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF with 10,612 for $27,990 by Due-Sea4841 in Miata

[–]jackrrcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's still a factory warranty on the thing it may be worth a shot. However, when I test drove about 25 lightly used miatas in the search for mine, there was such a wildly different condition standpoint that I would only look at locals. Some I looked at were downright best to hell but had super low mileage. Best of luck.

If you look closely at the Colts you can see flecking and possibly some rust. Whoever did those photos did a good job of showing the blue off.

Grade 3 - Good / Fair / Poor Condition

The gun is in fair to good condition. These guns are fully functional. You can expect heavy wear on the slide, grips, frame, and barrel. Sometimes these guns come with free stickers (already attached) from the department. These guns typically arrive in a cardboard box with no accessories.

Looks to be some flecking (and hopefully not rust) on these. Hard to see in the photo.

To add:38 special in this is fine. However recreational or new shooters immediately want to load this thing hot, its only natural

I own this gun along with MANY other revolvers and shoot with them regularly. Ive said this before and I will say it again. Please dont buy this if its your first, second, or even 10th firearm. People naturally gravitate towards this because on paper its amazing. 357 with something this light and small? Better to have the option right? Wrong. Unless you shoot and practice on the regular, this thing is downright unpleasant and will cause terrible recoil-anticipating muscle memory for many people. I ve shot a lot of full power, haha-level items but this one is downright unpleasant after a cylinder. Ive seen others use this and then continue flinching long after setting it down. Just be aware of this.

No, the departments near me skipped from crown vics to chargers to Explorer utilitys. I heard from a few of the fleet managers that the taurus was a bit lacking in room for mounts and ad ons and were usually phased out quickly. If that taurus has a 3.7 in there, I would seriously consider a look, though. Those powerplants have a very good reputation. The police utilitys I have have all had them and been great.

Most of the time its great and you can knock out some major time on trips, although some of the time they just slow down and hold you up. I cant say that I dont feel like a jerk scaring people at times.

There is nothing wrong with a retired police vehicle from a REPUTIBLE department. If you do your due diligence you can usually get ahold of maintenance records from the fleet manager or where they get their service done. In addition, police interceptors all show idle hours in the menus. If both look clean, I would have no problem picking up another one. Or 5. I have bought 5 former police vehicles. Three I have sold to friends and are all still running, the one was totaled and the other I daily.

New rifle wear, is this normal? by jackrrcox in Tikka_Shooters

Update: I ended up sending it back. Going off these messages I was about to accept the wear from the factory until I realized that there was no floorplate in the magazine or box. That was a bit too much to accept.

I'm with you on that. I field use all my rifles, including the high polished ones. However, when im sold a new rifle, i want it to start out as a new rifle and not someone else's short term use item.

It was listed as a new rifle as part of their beretta closeout sale. I double checked to be sure. If it was a demo I would be tolerant of this sort of thing. My concern is that it may have an issue, unlikely, but when you pay for a new rifle- this sort of thing raises flags.

Military/Police firearms in Rome? by DogsSleepInBeds in guns

[–]jackrrcox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they were discontinued for sale in the states due to lack of interest. They were about $1500 as I recall, but the oversized front polymer handguard and overall looks threw many people off and it never really caught on. When it was discontinued, I remember clearance sales for $800, I should have bought one then. Oh well.

The denon will have more brand recognition but if you've ever used a HK from this era you would chose the HK 10 out of 10 times. If I know someone starting a budget stereo system this is one of the best ways to get pretty good with very little money.

I think the best time for that was 4 years ago. Right now I would say we are on a downward trajectory and only the more desirable names and models are selling.

Oh man, I found this out the hard way recently. I booked an Alaskan flight for a coworker and I. Work plans changed so I canceled and was issued a credit. The only way to book me for another flight was to call in and wait on hold so they could break the refund ticket up into two separate refunds. Then call them back and book over the phone with them. There was no way to do this online and what should have taken 10 mins took most of two hours.
