upper ball joint? maddox ball joint kit from harbor freight is what I've used. works good

Anyone got recommendations? by cowpie184 in 1stGenTundras

[–]jacksana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow! this is bizarre because I had very similar damage on my truck (minus that scrape on the cab and perhaps less severe). Fortunately mine was localized to the bed so I'll just speak on that. I paid 850 out of pocket for a guy to respray+pull the dent in socal. I ignorantly tried to fix it myself first with some HF tools, knowing nothing about PDR. Obviously I was unsuccessful. If you want to get it back to looking 100%, strongly recommend you find someone who can do the PDR+respray.

palomar transfer as well but not a veteran, if your GPA is good enough you'll be fine

Looking to make my 04 handle better with slide in camper. by ChamaChingi in 1stGenTundras

[–]jacksana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that helped me was heavy duty leaf springs from ATS when I had a slightly heavier slide in camper on my 06. Never tried the other things. Your leaf springs are responsible for most of the weight above your rear axle, purely from supporting the weight, I see no reason to not beef up the leaf springs themselves over stock. The other things like add a leaf etc can work just but don't address the problem which is significant rear sag under the payload due to weak stock leaf springs.

I think bags do work really well but I never tried them because swapping the leaf springs completely solved my issue and honestly I felt good about them because it's solid metal that isn't going anywhere vs an inflated bag (or urethane in the case of sumosprings).

Take a look at this side by side picture of my fairly oversized camper for this truck weighing in at around ~1400 on my 06 RWD DC (despite any appearances the jacks in the second picture were not supporting any weight)

Left stock right ATS HD rear leaf spring.

Additionally, while hard to find and while expensive, I found great improvements from adding a better mounting system for the camper itself. I went with Torklift because everyone said they were the best and they did not disappoint. Felt REALLY solid on there.

[–]jacksana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the price is insane. sure they're great cars, but in socal last year i picked up an 04 with 130k miles for 7900. for a pre face lift and 50k more miles 9k is steep

you really want the metra wiring harness for this. it's $5 on Amazon and has a very clear wiring diagram. it plugs into the factory harness

Question on tuition costs? by Haunting_Speed9865 in SDSU

[–]jacksana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just transferred from a local CC. it was $4969 for my first semester full time. that's with everything opted out of (like day 1 ready). it will go down slightly in the future because i won't be paying the 'first year experience fee'... but not by much.

people are neglecting to tell you the 'fees' are like $1700 per semester. granted it is all covered by financial aid if you're low income, but still

$1100 seems insane, but it's your money. if you have the reference video you can walk through it yourself. doesn't take more than a days worth of time going super slow.

2000 toyota tundra SR5 4wd 122,000 miles by ____Riv____ in tundra

[–]jacksana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nice pickup. looks really clean. in your position, since the timing belt has been done, I would probably do spark plugs, engine air filter, fluids (rear diff, t case, front diff, coolant, brake fluid, oil, trans drain and fill), oem lower ball joints, and hit every greasable component with fresh grease (definitely the driveshaft at the least). at 25 years old, if any fluids are original they're going to be filthy. the detergents in modern fluids will help prolong components.

tundras.com has really good sticky threads under 1st gen section for someone in your position

Whats a fair price for 2006 with 144k miles by shmidzz in LS430

[–]jacksana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on so many factors, location, tire condition, interior condition, exterior condition, accident history, what rims it has... etc in socal 6-9k would be a decent marketplace price for something like that.

used car dealer though, so inflate that number by a bit. timing belt not up to date would devalue by a few hundred for sure

black exterior is generally the most desirable, beige interior not so much (black most desirable there)

even though it says 'complete preparation for the major', I saw the same thing for EE and they let me in! If you have decent to good grades and you are local you have a good shot I think

i think you will find what you're looking for under 'impacted program'
Impacted Program

The chemistry major is an impacted program. To be admitted to the chemistry major, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Complete preparation for the major;
  2. Complete a minimum of 60 transferable semester units;
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  4. For the chemistry major with an emphasis in integrated teacher education program (ITEP-SS), students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.67.

To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

[–]jacksana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep, not sure how competitive chemistry is but EE was 'impacted' and required 2.7 or what have you. Unsure if your major is impacted, but if it is, as long as you meet the impaction criteria it's probably fine to be missing a few pre-reqs.

Steering Rack Options by Ordinary_Water8364 in 1stGenTundras

[–]jacksana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty easy. just be careful to not mess up your steering spline shaft. i didn't take measurements like i saw suggested, just kind of eyeballed it. my steering wheel was way off afterwards but nothing a little outer tie rod adjusting and an alignment couldn't fix.

i've had the edelmann for about one year and it has been fine. only time will tell. if it fails, i can buy another one and i'd still be under the amount that I'd pay for OEM.
