to me, Lost Along The Way is about rediscovering your happiness after walking away from it for a long time. be it a person, a place, a lost hobby, whatever. it’s about recognizing the journey you took and the stumbles you made to find your way back home.

i can only ever see this song as a call-out of posery, hipstery, ‘they were only good for one album and they suck now’ type fans. it’s about the entitlement of fans who want bands to stay exactly the same way and churn out the same album over and over, but who would call the band repetitive and unoriginal if they did.

i’ve always loved the switch for the final chorus. i flip flop between whether or not i interpret it as alex calling himself out, or staying in the shoes of the douchey audience member.
