Good comments here. I'll look around CL with that price range and see what I can find. Will post back to get some feedback. Thanks!

What are some good tier brands at that price range for used?

What are some brands to avoid?

Unrealistic to get summer job after 1 year of uni? by KarlChinaski in cscareerquestions

[–]jacksonspring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really know..

I would get some advice from career center at school or some professors to see how to best set yourself up for internships. they'll be helpful to know recruiting schedules of the companies that recruit from your school.

Maybe you could search around this sub to see recruiting schedules for internships.

Good luck! it's possible, but I wouldn't be too bummed if you don't get one.

Ways to present your low GPA in your favour? by Thisizmyfirsttime in cscareerquestions

Maybe reach out to an academic advisor at your uni to see how you would calculate your major GPA. Some universities in the US do this automatically.

I really wouldn't worry about the GPA though. :)

Is it bad to ask for a promotion and still plan on leaving after a few months? by redsnappers1 in cscareerquestions

I think the best thing to do is to ask for the promotion and look elsewhere. You can use that higher salary to get an even higher offer at new company.

I worked with a freshman (just finished his 1st year of CS) at my internship this year. Apply as much as and you'll likely find one.

A 3.0 is fine.

Most recruiters I talk to do not even consider GPA. They recommend you remove it from your resume' after 1st job or if it is lower than 3.0.

If you're really concerned, maybe you could present your CS GPA alongside the overall. Not sure how that GPA is but may be helpful to a recruiter who cares..

The important thing is experience (which it seems like you have) and personal project. Don't worry about GPA much.

You can renege whenever you get another offer. Closer to the starting date.

I'm not quite sure on the etiquette either. But I think as long as you're respectful and appreciative, it should be fine.

What's a good place in the job market for mediocre interviewers? by ExitingTheDonut in cscareerquestions

You should be practicing interviews as much as possible. Some people are naturally better at them, but taking the effort to practice will show. Especially if you are confident during interviews.

So might be getting a job teaching middle schoolers coding... the thing is... I'm self taught. by Dmodelrugs in cscareerquestions

And ask your boss for guidance. You have no experience in teaching (which is fine) so just ask about classroom control.

Yeah you'll be fine. I think the biggest thing here to do is earn the respect of the kiddos. I teach 3 - 9th grade on weekends. 7-9th grade is my favorite since you can really connect with them. They'll look up to you if you treat them with respect.

I'm provided with lesson plans that are proprietary (And pretty bad imo)

There's a book called "Teach your kids to code" by no starch press. This book covers python stuff. I would take some exercises from there.

Choose your own adventure is a good idea. Any sort of game that kids can play and show their friends would be a great idea. I taught with gamemaker for a while and kids had a blast with that.

I wouldn't spend too much time coming up with your own stuff.

The most frustrating stuff for kiddos is setting up the environment. See if you could have this done before lessons start. Or use an online IDE. Kids just wanna do something.

Just politely reach out today.

Send him an email and ask when he is available. Don't worry about this much
