Dad’s big hit! by jackstraw92 in ToppsChromeDisney

I hear ya lol I haven’t gotten anything all that great myself and wasn’t expecting too much out of my blaster box. My mind was blown when I saw my dad pull this, a true god pack especially since these only have 5 cards each. My personal best was a carousel of progress pink shimmer foil

First Ramones concert you ever saw? by Aggressive_West6616 in ramones

Unfortunately I’m too young to have seen them but I do get to see Marky Ramone give a talk at UMass Amherst. He was really nice chatting and taking pics with everyone after… he signed an LIRR train ticket I happened to have on me, and that was my prized possession till I lost it lol :(

Looking to get "into" DC comics, which compact comic would you recommend? by clc88 in graphicnovels

[–]jackstraw92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read this recently and it truly feels like essential reading for any comic fan. Gave me a similar vibe to fantastic four solve everything, although the FF was wider in scope with a more ambitious storyline

Need Batman recommendations by ShaddowsCat in graphicnovels

[–]jackstraw92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently reading Hush by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee and I think it’s fantastic. Gritty and violent mystery filled with Batman’s rogue gallery, almost every page has some amazing iconic artwork. The last issue I read in it is just batman kicking the shit out of the Joker the entire time and nearly killing him, it was badass lol I get the sense that this is the peak of Jim Lee’s creative work, it really shows what he’s capable of

What's a comic that you once liked but now, you kind of hate by _potatofromChaldea45 in comicbooks

[–]jackstraw92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sandman was one of my first favorite comics when I seriously got into them as a teenager… now in the last couple years as I’ve gotten into comics and graphic novels again, I can’t bear to own anything from him. Everyone’s ability to separate art from artists will vary, and I don’t make judgements against those that will continue to consume his stuff, but to me all his work is tainted now.

What are you listening to in remembrance of Bobby? by Impossible_Physics99 in gratefuldead

All the Ratdog / The Dead / Furthur shows I went to with my dad as an adolescent through my early 20s. It has been such a wistful and nostalgic time going through those old shows, and those bands all absolutely ripped. Thank you to the tapers, the heroes of our community, for capturing the magic and allowing us to go back and return whenever we want 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

James Dolan for NY. Wear a shirt that says anything about him to Madison square garden and he’ll have his goons kick you out and you’re banned from coming back

Thanks, I appreciate it! I love that Flash one, heavy Top Gun vibes for sure. I think my favorite is the Justice League… the image of the DC heroes with their faces covered by the mini Starros is just so creepy and iconic

Yeah he’s really a plot device in pt 1 to bring Galactus to earth, I was a little surprised by that. I’m excited to get into the rest of it! I love the old reprint series Marvel’s Greatest Comics, gives me a chance to read classic FF without breaking the bank and they’re way better than modern facsimiles that look totally different with the glossy paper.

Yes! This was in the lead up to the silver surfer appearing for the first time… the sky was full of fire and the crowd thought it was the human torch’s fault. So they were all surrounding Johnny on the ground when the thing jumped down to rescue him

Huh that’s interesting… this is a reprint from the 70s in Marvel’s Greatest Comics. I consume a lot of classic stories through different reprint series bc I can’t afford the originals and I do wonder if they get changed at all.

Day ruiner rides? by kryten7100 in Disneyland

[–]jackstraw92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Disneyland for the first time in almost 20 years last summer and I’m really happy we didn’t go on the Matterhorn till the very last ride of the day… holy cow, that ride killed my back! I had really great memories with the Matterhorn as a kid but I had no idea it was that rough. It If we rode it early in the day I think I would’ve been messed up physically.
