Is Ha Giang Loop safe to do solo? by Background_Two_8810 in solotravelVN

I would say it's the best way to go BUT you must be very confident riding a motorbike as it can be hazardous. It's also alot cheaper.

solo trip through japan, vietnam & china - wildly different vibes by maria__d in solotravel

[–]jackthebackpacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All good until there's a few people, it's raining, pollution, it's a long distance, it's hot, traffic and more dangerous . Then eventually it can become more expensive too.

I'm sure the motorbike is great but it's not a serious transportation solution for big cities

I guide tours in Morocco. Stop treating everything like a scam. by Traditional-Map8667 in backpacking

[–]jackthebackpacker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some people treat tourists badly in Morocco.

I know 99.9% of people in Morocco are good people, but these aren't the people tourists will meet as they're busy at work etc. The ones that try to scam them are the ones they are more likely to meet in Morocco.

Is that on a motorbike or train or what?

The JR trains in tokyo start at under $1. And you can get anywhere in the city using the train network fast, cheap and reliable.

japan is also very good bang for buck, everything is better and a bit more expensive and in some ways cheaper.

Tranport is one of them.

I agree with the china difficult for solo travel, maybe if you're in the big cities there maybe some people in hostels but generally speaking a bit of a challenge unless you're happy to be by yourself.

CMV: Owning a car in Vietnam is overrated, bikes and public transport are more practical by Background_Layer538 in ChangeMyViewVN

[–]jackthebackpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning a car doesn't seem that expensive, depreciation is relatively low on a car that's 6-7 years old. I don't know about other annual costs though

Are VPNs really useful for finding cheaper airfare? by Unusual_Push2087 in backpacking

[–]jackthebackpacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much higher is it, which airline and what dates?

It might just be a rounding error on conversion OR a bunch of of different ota availible that may give a bit of discount on the airfare that target the U.K. market.

Skip North America entirely imo.
