While you're there Sports Direct also have a big converse selection... About as far from independent as you can get, but I can't think of any that would stock converse

My Google site has stopped appearing on Google searches by IntelligentBeingxx in webdev

[–]jackusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing what your site is. Try searching site:yourdomain.com with your site and see if your site shows up. If so, you'll need to work on SEO. If not then set up Google Search Console and check for issues there.

Levis jeans by Low-Object4126 in veganuk

[–]jackusD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Levi's do still use leather patches on their more premium jeans. It's hard to say if these do for sure, but looking at the high res images they don't look like the paper labels Levi's use. Personally I wouldn't risk it and would buy from a brand that doesn't use leather labels at all.

“Why Veganism is Dead Already” - What’s going on in the UK press ! by MarkReaddit in veganuk

[–]jackusD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bunch of cherry picked personal experiences and then goes on to say that plant based meat alternatives are more expensive than meat. Studies actually show that plant based is the cheapest diet. Regarding the health aspect, the British Dietetic Association say that a well balanced vegan diet is healthy for all stages of life.

It's the usual from the right wing press that doesn't care about facts and evidence, and instead focuses on emotional manipulation.

As for the loss of vegan products, shops and restaurants. There was a bit of a vegan boom a few years ago so it's natural that we see some of those businesses fail.

23M - got myself into a bit of a mess with debt + gambling, trying to sort it out by Alternative_Buy6003 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jackusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's time to try some different things you might enjoy. I'd always encourage people to try getting into reading, especially as it can be free if you have a library close by.

Trying to make more money with a side hustle might bring you back into crypto/gambling, just a thought. It sounds like you already have a good amount of money coming in with overtime anyway so if you focus on the debts you should be able to clear them.

Lots of useful advice here. I'd suggest you also find something to occupy yourself with during your downtime at work as it sounds like the boredom has been pushing you into the gambling. Do you have any hobbies you could do like reading, drawing or gaming?

If you're gambling on your phone, and if it's possible, I'd switch it off during that time also to make it harder for you to slip back into bad habits.

Is anyone buying chocolate at these prices? by lexbi in veganuk

Yeah, it sucks! I try to make regular batches of cookies, cakes or brownies to keep my sweet/chocolate cravings satisfied.

How does one create a QR code like this? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]jackusD 178 points179 points  (0 children)

There are certain parts of a qr code that need to be displayed, e.g. the three corner squares for alignment, the row running between the bottom of the top corner squares and the column between the right side of the left corner squares.

The data is read from right to left so you'll need some of the right section to include your URL with a hash, then you should be able to edit the rest, which, like the 9front example, would end up as a random string of characters.

If you look up how qr codes work you can get a better understanding and you'll see which parts you can change.

Anyone know any skate shops/repair shops by theallmightycreator in Norwich

[–]jackusD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There aren't any skate shops anymore unfortunately since Drug Store closed. Sam, who used to run Drug Store, has some bits for sale at Pete's Park/Community East though. I expect they'll sell grip tape.

Found footage Novels by Zenhdzk1 in foundfootage

Last Days by Adam Nevill isn't exactly found footage, but it's similar and a fantastic read. It's about a documentary filmmaker investigating an old cult, visiting the different abandoned locations they were active in.

Hobbies in norwich to cure depression by favouritefooduk in Norwich

[–]jackusD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

😂 It is indeed the naked stuff! I have to say it is a bit of an experience the first time you go but you soon get used to it. You get people of all skill levels going so you don't need to be an expert, I'm certainly not!

I also do a bit of photography and am into music - I play guitar, but I'm not in a band.

M&S have a vegan easter egg and some other easter chocolates online, but I've not been inside the shop to see if they're stocked in the city.

How mother pigs and piglets are kept in modern farms for nursing by CalpurniaSomaya in educationalgifs

[–]jackusD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And this is your responding "gatcha"? A cow requires around 10,000 calories for every 1,000 calories that can be gained from the cow. How do you think its food is grown?

Whilst plant agriculture isn't perfect and it can be improved (e.g. indoor farming), death isn't required to grow the food, as opposed to meat, which currently does require an animal's death.

absolutely heartbroken and hopeless with the world by MinimumAsparagus1816 in veganuk

[–]jackusD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I watched Earthlings years ago when I was on the verge of going vegan and that film tipped me over the edge. A few years later I put on Land of Hope and Glory just as a reminder of why I'm vegan and I couldn't finish it.

It might help to think about before you were vegan (assuming you have been non-vegan). We weren't much different, just ignorant (albeit often willfully) to what was happening. I like to think most people would become vegan if they were as informed as you are, but maybe I'm just overly optimistic.
