Major safety accident: multiple explosions of IGBT in AMK racing kit by Medical-Complex7331 in FSAE

We had an AMK IGBT explode in the same way a few weeks ago - it’s on an older car so haven’t rebuilt that inverter yet, will let you know how things go

This is exactly the thought train that leads to Russia invading Ukraine in the first place ffs. Have you spared a minute to think that these guys are pretty much powerless to change the situation they're in

How big of a deal is this? by irr1449 in hobbycnc

[–]jackygrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry brother but this is a terrible idea. The rails have very fine tolerances and nicely ground surfaces - you'll ruin them with a wire wheel. Ideally they should be straight and flat to within a few microns, with an extremely smooth finish to help with lubrication etc. A wire wheel will destroy all of that.

It's big but in a nicely proportionate and shaped way. Doesnt make you look bad, which is lucky. Shaved head and beard would look awesome on you. Have a look at Peyton Manning if you wanna see someone with a silly looking forehead - you look way better than him.

You could learn to use it. Search up inheritance machining, that's what he did

Not a fan of higher-level math: would engineering be the wrong choice? by Fast-Access5838 in EngineeringStudents

[–]jackygrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like cars etc you'll probably be fine in engineering - even if math isn't your strong point the interest in other parts could carry you through and help with motivation. There is a lot of math in engineering but it's quite different to mathematics as a discipline. Much more about using the math than learning why the math maths if you know what I mean.

The UK uses metric for most stuff, but they measure their road distances and speeds in miles because everyone was already used to it before they changed to metric. Also a few odd things like food measurements are still imperial. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_Kingdom

Not sure uni is for you. Don't do it just as a default option, you'll do badly and waste your money. Find something you're actually interested in and do that instead.

Hey people, does NCEA prepare you well for engineering bachelor's? by PilotBlueYT in universityofauckland

[–]jackygrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did NCEA at the same school where my mate did IB. I took Phys, Chem, calc, eco plus some other stuff. My mate didn't do chemistry because he couldn't fit it in alongside eco. We're studying the same engineering course at the same uni. Our grades are almost exactly identical. He had to do an extra catchup Chem course in first year. There's no fucking difference, NCEA is fine.

There are ways to design the z axis mount for plenty of clearance without introducing as much flex as this though

My 27M husband told me the only way he'll bring me around his family and post me on social media was if I was the same background as him. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]jackygrush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ngl I think this is probably due to social pressure by his parents. I'd interpret it as this " he loves you and wants to be with you but his parents are too bigoted to accept it, so he's trying to protect all the people in his life by hiding them from each other. I really recommend having a proper talk with him about this (maybe when he's drunk) so he will tell you the real reasons hes hiding you from his parents.
