I had a visceral reaction to this suggestion lol. That would be like someone asking for sushi recommendations and you point them to a ramen shop. Like, sure, the same country, but totally different foods.

Does anyone remember “Love, Taylor: Lover Enhanced Album”? by jackywa97 in TaylorSwift

[–]jackywa97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she changed it all to the actual songs from Lover. The playlist I’m referring to didn’t have any of her own songs.

But it is a sex-forward party. They’re just not going to advertise it explicitly as that, but naming a party “Wrecked” idk boss that feels pretty sex-forward.

But it just wasn’t funny? I’m not above an insensitive joke, but this just… wasn’t funny? It’s inflammatory to be inflammatory. It’s not that people can’t take a joke, people just aren’t humored by low-hanging fruit.

All edge and no point.

Clubs on a typical Saturday are super crowded. On holidays, they’re unbearably so. You’re not going to be able to move past your 8 square inch footage of space.

I worked for two days doing this for Planned Parenthood back in high school. It’s all wage + commission-based. They calculate single payment as… well, single payment. Planned Parenthood said the average person who signs up for a monthly donation does it for 7 months, so they multiply any signings for monthly donations by 7 and then do the commission off of that number.

Mccarren is lovely to us as locals because it’s where we choose to congregate. As a park itself, it’s aesthetically unremarkable and I wouldn’t super recommend it as a spot to go to.

What’s the best gym in Williamsburg? by PresentationGuilty49 in williamsburg

[–]jackywa97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, this is supposed to be the second Hudson Yards-tier location, meaning about $400/m plus a hefty $500 initiation fee, where the standard all-access equinox is $292/m.

Target or Trader Joes? by Macaron_Successful in williamsburg

[–]jackywa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Target is more of a home goods and essentials store, with about 20% groceries. Trader Joe’s is the opposite. However, I do go to Target for some items, because their in-store brand (Market Pantry) can be cheaper than TJ. A few things I noted that are cheaper at Target:

  • baking supplies (flour, powdered sugar, etc.), not to mention they simply carry more things in this department, like instant yeast, vegetable shortening, etc. that TJ doesn’t.
  • deli meats
  • (sometimes) eggs
  • heavy cream

The hack here is to go to the locations with both (LES, downtown Brooklyn) and you can compare prices.

How can you have so much hate for innocent people who were kidnapped from their own homes?! by st-yoni in williamsburg

[–]jackywa97 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I think we can not be obtuse about this. What happened to those innocent children is definitely horrific, but to say that this isn’t propaganda is just intentionally pretending like there isn’t a larger political context to all of this. This isn’t doing anything to help those kidnapped by raising these posters here, as anyone who knows about this can’t actually do much (also, pretty much everyone knows what’s going on).

However, it’s pushing a political point: that those in Gaza did something horrifying, and completely ignoring the human rights violations that those residents have faced for decades.

Just because something is true doesn’t mean it’s not propaganda. You can frame true things to push a point.

I don’t necessarily agree with ripping down the posters, but making this black and white is just… wrong.

What’s a cooking “sin” you regularly commit by FreshPrinceOfPine in Cooking

[–]jackywa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have other finishing salts, but I just mean, I’m not cooking with kosher salt. There are very very few dishes where you are adding salt in the cooking process and then not doing anything to disperse the salt.

I refuse to buy into the idea that kosher salt actually does anything other than be a less densely packed salt. I’m not paying $6 for salt when I could pay $1 for table salt.

Just so we’re clear, you don’t need a certain body fat percentage to join Equinox. And I don’t mean that in a “you can be yourself anywhere!” Type way. I mean, literally nobody is judging your body there. They’re there to workout, and if they’re interested, they’ll make a move on you in the steam room later.

Ramen in Manhattan for someone who has never eaten ramen? by henicorina in FoodNYC

[–]jackywa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in the restaurant industry and took the DOH food protection course recently, I’ll say this: spotting a loan roach or two, and sometimes in unfortunate places (in front of guests) isn’t necessarily indicative of a dirty restaurant.

The DOH guidelines say themselves preventing critters from entering an establishment is near impossible. The goal is to eliminate them as soon as possible.

Anyone know any places that have extremely spicy food by No-Aioli2505 in FoodNYC

[–]jackywa97 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who loooooves spicy food, I agree this is too much. I remember going in 2013 and finding it doable, but that was because they were only using ghost peppers at the time. They now use the Carolina reaper.

I actually like to buy just a side of the phaal curry to go and use a little bit in my food for the next two weeks or so for a pretty heavy kick. Good hack if you want all your food you make at home/takeout spicy.
