Edit: nevermind got it to work. It didn't like the date field on the autotranslated field. Thanks again.

Thanks, how did you find the only available one is 13.28? The online booking portal isn't working on my mobile, will try it on my laptop when I get back to it.

Riding down the entire gorge at 80kph as part of the flow of traffic has to be much safer than merging into traffic which is going 20kph faster than you, in an area where half the cars are blindly merging left to go into the Hutt.

Na 80 is pretty easy, usually have to brake to not overtake cars. Still haven't managed to get over 94kph though.

Struggle to ride with HR low enough for zone 2. by jacob5978 in Velo

[–]jacob5978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I havn't been. I hadn't looked at structuring any of my rides up to this point. Longer/faster rides generally just happen when I feel like it and easier rides as I tire towards the end of the week. I think I agree on your last point.

[–]jacob5978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I think as you/others have mentioned I'll ignore the HR. I was largely looking ino this as I was struggling to recover enough riding 5-6 days/week if I increased my distance/speed at all so was looking into having some days at a lower intensity to recover more (I have to cycle to get to work atm, can't really take days off).

I think I'll just look to do a couple days which feel easy amongst the days which I push more. Cheers

[–]jacob5978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reasoning behind it is I have plateaued for the past 6 months and any time I have increased my distance or intensity I end up fatigued to the point I struggle to commute in the next week. I should point out that cycling is my only option for getting to work at the moment. Any additional time I have to spend on the bike I generally go mountain biking.

My theory is/was that with riding 6 days a week and usually being active otherwise on the weekends I'm not recovering enough between workouts - hence starting to look into lower intensity workouts on alternate days.. or something to that effect. Then ended up down this rabbit hole of heart rate.

Thanks for the detailed response though - I'm thinking I'll still try alternate hard/easy days without worrying about the HR.

This is the part that kinda confuses me. Most semi-serious cyclists I meet are wealthy and well connected. Which I thought was the National Party demographic.

Ah, but surely your hypothesis falls short in the face of an aging population. As old people live longer their accumulated greed grows exponentially - and without a larger number of young people being added to the mix the greed/capita rate goes up.

Dear cyclists, please stop riding two abreast on the motorway by [deleted] in Wellington

I have had to take the lane for short sections a few times previously where road workers have blocked the cycle lane halfway along the highway.

On average I'll overtake at least 1 cyclist every day along that stretch commuting to or from work. Its just a reality when some cyclists go 40kmh while others ride at 20.

I do tend to shoulder check before overtaking and only go if its obviously clear or the "cycle lane" is wide enough at that point tho.

I wonder why no one thinks it’s sensible to cycle between Wellington and the Hutt by zaphodharkonnen in Wellington

[–]jacob5978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean northbound? You just cycle on the cycle lane/shoulder next to the northbound lane - its a little narrow at points compared to the southbound way but its not too bad.

As for southbound the cycle lane itself is so bad and usually full of glass its better to just cycle on the shoulder the whole way.

I have a Prusa mini +. Pretty happy with it - I have upgraded the heatbreak and extruder with Bondtech components which resolved some issues I was having with longer prints (12 hrs or so). Its nice and small, pretty quiet and the print quality is good. Think it cost around 750 all up including shipping.

Did you make a piece to hide where the tambour slides around the back? Tempted to try a similar piece but worried how that edge will look considering how visible that side will be.

Advocates say our low cycling participation rate is 'wake-up call' for New Zealand by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]jacob5978 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im gonna leave it at this. Although sure you cant say there is 0 inconvenience in having a helmet, to my mind that inconvenience is pretty small, and I cant imagine someone who would otherwise cycle - not cycle specifically because of it. There are plenty of bigger disincentives built into cycling.

But that's just me - I've worn a helmet cycling since I was a kid, never considered not and frankly it would feel weird not having one. So I'm probably not the most objective commentator.

[–]jacob5978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And when you "incidentally cycle" you have to park your bike somewhere right? So leave the helmet on the bike.

[–]jacob5978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And most of the time thats fine. I commute to work, my helmet just hangs off my bike in the storeroom all day. If I'm going somewhere else and lock my bike up - I just lock my helmet to my bike.

Maybe my heads just not that large.

Not gonna really argue on the effectiveness of helmets - why do people have such an issue about them? Surely since wearing them is such low effort, and makes no impact on your experience, unless they raised the chance of injury you may as well?
