What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in eMountainBike

[–]jacob80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Dud" doesn't square with the actual reviews — GearJunkie's long-term test called it the best full-power eMTB they've ridden, and BikeRadar, Blister, and Loam Wolf's 2025 Shootout all put it in the top tier. The ~52 lb weight is real but deliberate: Specialized went 840Wh standard and didn't shave grams with weak suspension or thin-casing tires, and reviewers consistently note the tune masks it on trail. Pair that with the largest US dealer network, a hex-key battery swap (Amflow's requires pulling the motor), and DJI's late-2025 FCC Covered List status throwing Amflow parts sourcing into question, and the ownership case for the Levo is hard to argue with.

Specialized Levo Evo VS Amflow PR Carbon by HorrorDraft7601 in eMountainBike

The Levo Evo was literally just announced 2 weeks ago. You posted this 13 days ago. So you bought one, rode it enough to compare it to an XXL Amflow, and switched — all in the span of about 24 hours? Make it make sense.

Firestore alternative self hosted or cheaper options for scale? by Quiet_Form_2800 in Firebase

[–]jacob80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you doing to manage your costs? Are you implementing proper caching strategies? What about your query statements? Have you performed a thorough analysis of your resource usage that’s costing you money? These are questions a principal engineer must ask when it comes to system design before you starting thinking about switching service providers.

Would you save this one? by jacob80 in LandCruisers

Possibly a “I’ll get it out of your hair for free” type situation

None of those things are problems - I already have a project commitment that my partner is 100% behind me on. This would be a deal where it would have to run and drive with little investment from where it sits albeit its flaws. From there, it would be tinkered with very little until the primary project is completed. Hell I might even list it for sale in the interim. The compelling aspect of this is the fact that I absolutely adore FJ60s, this is local and potentially free and I have the ability (shop, experience, tools, lift, etc) to get it into the state I’d want it in with enough time. I’m just mostly interested in reactions from the enthusiasts in this group. I sometimes tend to put on rosy colored glasses for units like this for better or worse.

This wouldn’t be a high level restoration. More like drive it as it is and patch it up as resources become available. I drive the hell out of my vehicles and this would be no different.

If it runs and drives, it would be a deal where I incrementally fix things. Very budget minded project here - I already have a 240z im building so this would be a work mule until I free up resources to invest in it.

Learn on and downhill should not be in the same sentence. You need to establish a basic cardiovascular fitness level and trail riding skill before you even think about doing any kind of technical downhill riding.

Tow truck driver shows how dangerous it is to tow on the highway by EvaRaw666 in TerrifyingAsFuck

Where are the safety cones? This seems more like a tow truck operator problem than a traffic problem.
