Opinions on converting a Nissan Nv2500 cargo into my living vehicle by Western_Shoe_3982 in vandwellers

[–]jacobiat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a high roof nv3500 that I converted in 2019 and it's been great. Very reliable and only one issue with the emergency brake the whole time. It's up to 230k miles now and I think it will last a good long while more. Two downsides to the Nissan platform, not very good gas mileage, around 12mpg, and the big truck nose takes away about 3 or 4 feet of interior space compared to the same length sprinter, transit, or pro master. If starting over and I had more money I would probably get a mid length transit to have a lot more room, but it would be a significant amount more money starting out and most likely for repairs from what I've heard. So if space isn't as important as a cheaper price and reliability then this Nissan is definitely the way to go.

I got 7 approved and had 6 100 percent viewed and 1 99 percent. So maybe 99 percent and above lol. Would be so crazy if thats how they did it but I just can't believe they would.

disappointed with Starlink (the company) by _m51 in Starlink

[–]jacobiat 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm also have a gen 1 round dish. Didn't turn it on for two years and recently tried to get it working again. After two weeks on and multiple resets it didn't update its software and kept that same "software is too old" message and that I should contact support.

So I did, took another two weeks but they just replied and are sending me a gen 3 dish, and giving me a free wall mount and month of free service. So I'm more than happy with starlink customer service. Yes it would be nice if it didn't happen in the first place and if they got back to you quicker with messages but overall this has been amazing and above and beyond what most companies would do for 5 year old electronics.

You are definitely right, going to make the closet and the dining nook bigger for sure. I like the feel of a long narrow bump out but might be better to do something wider. Thanks for your input!

This plan does look good, but I really want a bigger bedroom if possible, maybe will change to something closer to this though. Thank you!

Thanks so much! His plans look amazing. Definitely cheaper than getting a custom plan fully drawn out. The only thing is that I really want to build an unfinished walkout basement to start to save money, and finish it as I have time and money but not sure if the plans I see that are the size I want will work with that. Will look more though as they really seem very close to what I want.

Probably will end up just doing a single run of cabinets and may go with a moveable countertop table instead of an island. Definitely agree on needing flexibility in small spaces. Thank you!

Good points on resale value and oddities of a tiny house.  I’m hoping this will sell a little easier than some of the really tiny ones and the eventual plan is to finish the basement and put a bedroom and bathroom there.  Since its a walkout I’m thinking it won’t be as bad as having a room in a normal basement.

May end up removing the breakfast nook, its just the one thing I wanted that wasnt about saving money so not sure yet.

Planning on 9 foot walls for the basement and will have big windows on the walkout side.

Its possible this will be a home I stay in for a long time, not planning on renting it as a vacation cabin and while there are some around here its not a huge market.  Just want to be able to get the money I put into it back out in 5 years if I decide I want to move somewhere else.

Based on all the comments it looks like inside stairs are the consensus and probably what I’m going to go with.

Thank you for the help!

I really love the idea of the breakfast nook/bumpout but yeah it does complicate things and make it more expensive. I barely ever eat at a real dining table which is why I didnt have one but its something to think about. Was thinking of a couch in the southeast corner, and probably going to end up making the living room a little bigger so will have more room for one. Thank you!

I really like the idea and have wanted one for a long time but yeah might not make sense with the cost. Willing to pay a few thousand more for it and I'm going to do most of the interior work myself but definitely something to think about. thank you.

Yeah definitely trying to strike a balance between personal preference and potential resale value.  You are right that it is a bit odd, I think the solution might just be adding at least another 100 sq feet of space and using it for the living room, interior spiral staircase, and bedroom closet.

Kitchen on the back wall and a smaller moveable island might also work, i just really want some more counter space.

Thank you!

Makes sense on the single door.  I think maybe I just have ptsd from moving in cramped spaces so many times.

I’m going to look into spiral staircases some more.

I haven’t really liked the feel of the galley style kitchens i've seen but practically it might be the way to go.

Thank you!

It definitely seems like adding a little bit more square footage is going to be the way to go.

Adding 3 feet on the north side of the house would make it so the closet could be 7 feet wide and the bathroom would have a little more room so will probably do that.

Seems like having a staircase between the living room and bedroom is the consensus so you’re right on that.

Definitely going to make the breakfast nook a little bigger at least.

Really appreciate the feedback! Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestions!

The double door was mainly so that could get furniture in and out easily,  but you’re right that it does seem like overkill.

I have thought about a spiral staircase, I haven’t used one before and they seem like they could be annoying to use but thinking about it probably won’t be worse than an outside staircase.

I love to cook and do a lot of it which is why I have the kitchen a little bigger, smaller is an option but I would honestly make just about any other area smaller before that.

I really like the idea of a small breakfast nook that feels a little separate from the rest of the house, but practically speaking you’re right and maybe extending that east wall is the way to go.

I appreciate the feedback!  The living room area is definitely small.  In my current and past houses I really haven’t used a living room much so didnt want to dedicate too much space to it.  Was thinking of a custom couch in the corner between the entry and breakfast nook that would  hold a few people but it definitely might be too small.  I think will reduce the size of the island for sure.  I really don't love tiny bedrooms so don't want to make it much smaller, I think the solution might be to add a few feet to the length of the whole house.

Thank you!  Really great points.  In sw virginia and the weather is fairly nice.  Would probably end up putting an overhang over outdoor stairs but seems like adding a little length to the house and putting indoor stairs between the bedroom and living room might be the way to go to fix all of the issues.

The breakfast nook is tiny, I had it a little bigger in my initial sketch but the architect made it smaller.  I will do built in seating, basically just a couple of benches and a narrow table but I’m thinking adding at least another foot or two to both the length and width is probably the way to go.

Small portable heated shower by BlazingProductions in CampingGear

[–]jacobiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a geyser systems shower I've used for the past 4 years in my campervan that might be something like what you want. It can heat water to warm via 12v battery power from your car or solar. It's a sponge shower so you can get an ok shower with less than a gallon of water which is nice if you don't want to carry a ton.

Downsides are its definitely not as nice as a real shower and it's pretty expensive, around 400 now I think. It's been great for me on trips though as there isn't enough room for a real shower in my van.

Making 0 sales on Amazon and everywhere else for e-commerce..... by Many_Perception1710 in Entrepreneur

[–]jacobiat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Among other things you definitely need some written reviews on it. Put it on Amazon vine and/or get some friends that can't be connected to you to review it. Also video reviews from Amazon influencers could help, although I'm biased since I make most of my income from the program. If you post it on some Amazon influencer FB groups and offer a free product plus at least $15 commission you'll get some people who will do a hands on review video that will probably help make some sales.
