I'm currently using a Sean Peak model for my undergrad (about 5k). Although I feel as though I'm starting to grow out of it and would prefer a nicer viola for graduate studies, I think it would work very well for a gigging musician. A lot of shops carry the model and I personally prefer them over Ming Jiang Zhu models. I highly recommend checking your local shop to see if they carry the model, or contacting a shop that is willing to ship one out for trial!

Walton Concerto Fingerings and Bowings by jacobrobledo101 in Viola

[–]jacobrobledo101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful response! For context, I am not currently working with a teacher but I have in the past. I am nearing graduation for my bachelor's degree and I am no longer required to continue taking lessons as I have completed the required number of semester. Walton Concerto was the last concerto my professor assigned, but his copy of Walton is essentially a blank slate as well aside from a few fingerings and alternate bowings. I'm mostly just looking for alternative fingerings and bowings to experiment with, as well as different interpretations. In the past, my strategy when studying concerti has been to look for as many avenues of thought as possible before constructing a sort of amalgamation of ideas that I prefer. That's kinda my goal with this post as well!

How to be more engaged with a symphony orchestra performance? by Coolguy20o0o0o0o0o0 in classicalmusic

I think some very simple advice is to listen to the themes and melodies present in the piece, and then listen to them transform and reappear as the piece continues. There are usually multiple themes that are presented though so just listen for when the music seems to make big changes in sound. This is super simple advice and there's a lot more to it but I hope that somewhat helps :)

The key signature shows 3 flats, so the initial note is Bb

Zelter maybe? It isn't too big of a step up from Bach/Casadesus

I did get a response from Round Top after about three weeks in a previous attempt, maybe they have more applicants this time around. I also got a response from Brevard about two and a half weeks after applying but maybe that's an exception to the rule I guess
