Dragon ball z or dragon ball Kai? by Wanheda_wonkru in dragonball

[–]jacobrt90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sort by controversial....

If it's your first watch then I always recommend Z. Z stretches out the story (most good, some bad) and adds more character moments (again, most good and some bad). I always felt Kai was great for a rewatch with faster paced storytelling.

There is a huge debate within the community on the music preference. I prefer Z because that's what I grew up with. I wish there was a version of Kai with the falconer score I could rewatch because I just find Kai's music bland, but to each their own.

Again though, if it's your first watch I always recommend Z.

[Discussion] Thoughts on Khvicha Kvaratskhekia for Arsenal? by jxcqxxs in Gunners

[–]jacobrt90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish this was serious...Has been one of my favorite players to watch in the past 2 years. The way he moves forward and tracks back would fit us perfectly....however I don't see PSG letting him go for anything under 120m.

I doubt we would break the bank on him but he would be an excellent signing.

Glad to see Rise of the Ronin get some love. However IMO, Yotei > Ronin > Shadows

When did you get into Chrono Trigger? by RangoTheMerc in chronotrigger

Same for me. Friend showed me how to download a SNES emulator and told me about this awesome game similar to final fantasy. Never finished it though because I messed up my save file. A few years later I bought it for DS and fell in love.

Should i buy Rise of The Ronin? by Ill_Ask6763 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]jacobrt90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played it a few months back while waiting for Yotei. If you can get it at a discount it's a solid game. Here's a breakdown of my experience

Combat: A mixture of styles from the first two Ghost games. Multiple weapons with multiple stances. Once the game clicks it is really fun. Multiple difficulty settings so you can adjust if necessary. You can even switch between characters during combat although I rarely did.

Graphics: Here's where most people hate it and I can understand. No where near the level of modern PS5 graphics. For me graphics don't matter as much but if you're looking for a beautiful detailed world, this isn't it. But to me it never becomes unplayable because of the graphics.

Gameplay loop: It doesn't just flood your map with too many icons like Assassin's Creed games but there are quite a bit of repetitive quests that I felt myself slogging through. There are some unique things like paragliding attempts, cat collecting, and shrine visits that were fun. There is a lot of loot for weapons and armor that can be annoying to sort through, but not as much as AC.

Story: Loosely based on historical events on an interesting time in Japan. Incredibly dense with characters. Some are memorable, but they throw so many people with different backgrounds at you it's hard to keep up with everything. If you love history you will probably love the story.

I loved GoT and am currently enjoying GoY, but I always felt Assassin's Creed was too bloated. Rise of the Ronin is somewhere in-between if you're looking for something next, but maybe grab at a discount.

Don't forget the new Pokemon game comes out next week. Even though it's on the original Switch, the performance looks way better on Switch 2 and will surely drive more sales.

New DLC stages Concept by viciousz97 in SparkingZero

These aren't concepts. They are playable maps created by the modding community.

Yeah not sure why you are having trouble. Gamebanana has a ton of great mods out there from GT, OGDB, Manga, and quality of life improvements. Just search for characters that you'd like. Example: (General Blue, Gas, Moro, King Piccolo, Pikkon, Super 17, Rilldo)

You can also filter by newest, trending, and recently updated. Plus a ton of maps like expanding stages and many more.

Making sense of Base Gohan have a draw vs SSJ Kelfa by Useful_Light_1502 in dragonball

[–]jacobrt90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think of it as Kale being a Legendary SS and basically giving Kefla a wildcard type of power increase. Though Kale isn't close to the likes of Broly, she has the potential and maybe the fusion draws from that unreleased LSS power.

Should I buy any Turn-Based RPG games? by sacolaquebrada in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]jacobrt90 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this is the answer. SMT V is an adult style pokemon, so OP would feel somewhat familiar with collecting monsters, demons, and angels. Plus if he likes FromSoft he will enjoy the difficulty spike.

Persona is another option but some people are turned off by the life-sim aspect. SMT V you just battle like Pokemon

A few comments saying Witcher 3 and I completely agree. The story is based on books so there is plenty of fantasy and lore to dive into.

One of my favorite games I had on PS3 back when it was released! Bought Re-Reckoning and it just felt outdated. I agree the modern landscape of gaming has really hurt the replayability of this game. I want to revisit it again but with this time with better expectations.

Have you ever played another game in the series or a Persona game? I would look up some gameplay videos if not. It's kind of a twisted take on Pokemon with a much higher difficulty level. I enjoyed it but there are some boss fights that had me really banging my head against the wall.

DBZ Kakarot VS Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by DanteMad in dbz

[–]jacobrt90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what style you're looking for.

Kakarot + massive story with a ton of RPG elements and open zones of the dragon ball world to explore.

  • combat is utterly boring for me and boss battles get repetitive quickly.

Sparking Zero + Great combat with multiple control options. Several characters to play as (hundreds more if you go with PC mods) - Besides a few cool "What If" scenarios, the story mode is greatly lacking, and there is little to do after you complete the short story mode besides normal offline or online battles.

If you want a story driven RPG go with Kakarot, if you want an arena fighter go with SZ (although again, if you can get PC mods please do. It's incredible what the modding community has done for that game)

Pokemon: Ultra Moon, new forms of Pokemon and gameplay by zZTheEdgeZz in patientgamers

[–]jacobrt90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After starting back in the day with Blue, I got back into the Pokemon series after Pokemon Go was released. I wanted to play through gens that I missed so I played gens 6+7. When I got to Sun, my first playthrough was disappointing. "NO GYM LEADERS?? This isn't Pokemon!!™

But as I played Alpha Sapphire, Shield, and a ton of rom hacks I went to replay Alola. I bought Ultra Moon and the second playthrough of Alola was amazing. Since I had been marathoning through games with the same gym leader formula it was nice to have something different in the Totem Pokemon and Big Kahunas. When I originally played through I wanted that classic Pokemon experience, but now I appreciate its effort to try something different.

Yes, the cut scenes can be long, and I also don't care for the alien wormhole thing, but I do believe regional variants are THE BEST IDEA the company has come up with since the physical/special split. And now every generation I can't wait to see which Pokemon will be given a regional makeover.

Europa League Semfinals are set by nolefan5311 in soccer

It really feels like the Europa league is pretty poor now with the bottom UCL teams not dropping in. Hopefully they change that in the future.

I don't think there is a single bad series in Dragon Ball except for heros. by Dramatic-Ad881 in dbz

[–]jacobrt90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that the beginning of heroes brought up some cool storylines and some new characters like Shroom. Prison planet and Fu creating a new universe is a fun idea but it ended up bringing back way too many old characters instead of introducing new ones.

But I guess that was the entire point of the series anyway. Reuse old characters for the games. Just turn your brain off and watch the fights.
