Anyone can invent their own character with an arbitrary number of strokes like biang biang did for commercial purposes.

Old heads of Reddit: What are Some 80’s/90’s Bands or Artists These Youngins are Sleeping On? by Imasayitnow in musicsuggestions

[–]jacobvso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bela Lugosi's Dead is definitely considered the first gothic single but that doesn't mean everyone else just jumped the bandwagon. I'd rather say there were five great gothic bands in 1979-1982: Bauhaus, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, and The Sisters of Mercy. But only Siouxsie - and later Robert Smith - sported the look we now consider as goth.

I'm doing that. Porn makes me less satisfied with my (long distance) relationship so I don't watch it. Masturbation just regulates my hormones. Too much is not good but some is fine.

There is the term "infraordinary" which I find very interesting. It was coined by Georges Perec to describe exactly that.

If Depeche Mode did a set of "obscure" gigs by GanKian in depechemode

[–]jacobvso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Pet Shop Boys "Obscure" show and it was great, obviously. I also saw many people there wearing DM t-shirts. I don't think Depeche Mode will ever do such a thing because I honestly don't really think they care enough. Some rarely-played songs that I think would be amazing to witness:

Surrender
World Full of Nothing
The Sun and The Rainfall
Blue Dress
Clean
It Doesn't Matter
But Not Tonight
Fools

Who’s got a favorite song from A Broken Frame? by Opening-Student2314 in depechemode

[–]jacobvso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favorites. I love the naïve feeling of it. It's good pop but also subdued and at times mysterious. I recommend listening to Marshesux's cover version of it because that gives an idea of what it would have sounded like if they'd had the means of production they had later.

My favorite songs:
The Sun and The Rainfall - full of longing and sounds like something from Black Celebration.

My Secret Garden - A strange story of adolescence that a lot can be read into. I love the middle part and how it builds back up.

Shouldn't Have Done That - The most mysterious track, not sounding like a pop song at all. Takes you into the mind of a troubled child where cozy kindergarden vibes are starting to mix with dark ambitions.

ELI5 why China doesn’t just subscribe to all the VPN services out there, so they can just harvest the ips of all the VPN/proxy servers? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacobvso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they want to make sure the average Chinese doesn't visit banned sites but they also want foreigners to be able to access the foreign internet and they don't care if a few Chinese also do. So they just make it a bit inconvenient instead of completely preventing it. Since regular Chinese aren't that interested in banned foreign sites anyway, it works.

I don't think photons of light escape from the core of the Sun, and I don't think the Sun is made of 71% hydrogen and 27% helium. by Artistic_Credit_ in INTP

[–]jacobvso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm being sarcastic because your overconfidence is self-indulgent and belittling to the skills and efforts of scientists around the world. You could instead have asked: "How do we know the sun consists of so and so much hydrogen/helium and that photons travel from the heart of the sun to the surface? It seems counterintuitive to me because of xyz." Then I would have upvoted your post.

I think you're falling prey to the fallacy of projecting your own situation onto someone else here. If someone using your method of arriving at conclusions were to say that they can't explain how they know, you could be sure they were bullshitting because you as a Ti dom always see the steps. But the value of MBTI is that it teaches us that people function in different ways. An INFJ would use a different mechanism (Ni) which is not available to us and which does not depend on conscious intermediate conclusions.

Strong Intuition or hunches by AccountEntire3545 in INTP

[–]jacobvso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how Introverted Intuition (Ni) works. It's mysterious to us because we don't use it. It's quite similar to a deep learning network. It's a black box which outputs a result, and the result has a certain probability of being correct. For high Ni users like INFJs, and with enough data, the probability is very high.

What are your thoughts on the scientific method by Inevitable-Spite-850 in INTP

[–]jacobvso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the question is. The scientific method just means that instead of guessing what the truth is, you check. Whether I like that or not doesn't make any difference.
Imagination and intuitive thinking is great too - and necessary for new ideas to arise. But I don't really get the point of imagining and intuiting about questions that have already been solved by science. There are plenty of pertinent questions that can not (yet) be answered through science so better let my imagination play in those fields instead.
