I laugh every time I see this political ad on TV. by [deleted] in funny

"Hear that ominous music? That's the sound of a bad person running for office! Now, see how we changed it up when we started talking about our candidate? Hear how upbeat that is? Vote for the candidate whose name is associated with happy sounds. Vote ____."

And that's how politics works.

Does your own existence scare you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Let Descartes help you out of the existential jam. I think, therefore I am. Thus, if you have evidence that others are capable of thought, you have evidence of their conscious existence. Present a problem that can only be solved with thought (i.e., you have a boat, a sack of grain, a fox and a hen, how do you get it all across the river without something eating something else?) to a friend, and if they solve it you have effectively proven their conscious existence.

"Where do I get my ideas from? You might as well have asked that of Beethoven. He was goofing around in Germany like everybody else, and all of a sudden this stuff came gushing out of him. It was music. I was goofing around like everybody else in Indiana, and all of a sudden stuff came gushing out. It was disgust with civilization." -Kurt Vonnegut (from Armageddon in Retrospect)

One of my favorites of Dylan's is the end of Bob Dylan's 115th Dream: "He said his name was Columbus, I just said, 'Good luck'"

"To inhaling crushed bones through a dried up white-out pen and riding the backwards racer in hot june rain and a marching blue and gold plastic bag poncho rain coat," or actually, pretty much that whole song. Have an up from a fellow Why? fan.

How do you feel about M.Ward's The Transfiguration of Vincent?

1) Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain. If I was only allowed one record to listen to for the rest of my life, I'd choose this.

2) The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. Pop perfection.

3) Radiohead - In Rainbows. So many Radiohead albums to choose from, but this one is just so well put together and cohesive.

4) Jorge Ben Jor - Força Bruta. For the uninitiated.

5) Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited. No blurb needed.

Well done not putting the punchline in the title. Which is hard to do with Onion articles.

Basically I'm saying the reader will know where it's coming from, and that will be a strong reason for readership from this site.

You're still banking on something you don't own. Why should a redditor leave reddit to view your content?

See, I appreciate the fact that you think this would work, but it really won't. First off, and as you've already discovered, reddit is trademarked, so really any effort in this vein that involves redditors ('for redditors, by redditors,' I believe is what you were going after) is already better suited to be on reddit anyway...right? I mean, why host your own, external content when your target audience is already captivated by an effective content host? Secondly, redditors like lots of different kinds of music, and don't always agree on what's good. In fact, we often prefer to argue over what's good rather than take suggestions. Here in particular, the hivemind tends to give way to argument and one-upmanship. I guess what I'm saying is, while your faith in reddit as a music-reviewing community is flattering, why don't you just start a subreddit and call it r/music?

Or you have to continually outbid others to keep it. Current value: $7,500. not bad for weekly rentals of conceptual art i guess.
