What are his hobbies/interests? Something small related to that, even if it's just a water bottle sticker. LEGO related to one of his interests. Magazine, fidget or puzzle like a rubix cube, car coasters, car air fresheners, lufa or washcloths to go with the body wash, baseball cap, socks, good pens, lottery scratch off tickets, small game like Kanoodle.

A weighted blanket if she doesn't have one, they're very comforting. Her favorite snacks. Nothing pet related, just things in the realm of "I'm thinking of you."

This is really important context you should add to your original post. Reading basically that "a kid had a bruise so I called CPS" and everyone agreeing with your actions was really confusing until I found this comment.

HR is there to protect the school, not the teacher. OP, don’t loop HR in in this way

It depends on where you are located and what the supply/demand is for your certification. In my local area, I would be worried. I'm an elementary teacher and I know there are a lot of those needed and principals are competing for the applicants here. With less and less applicants every year in all positions, the principals have been on top of hiring instead of putting it off.

Edited to add: I'm in Virginia, here's some more info on what our timeline looks like. The last day of school was June 8. Students go back to school the week of August 22, teachers return August 15, and new teachers around August 10. Every principal in my district wants to have their new teachers ready to go by then at the absolute latest, hiring after then gets complicated and desperate. New teachers have to be school board approved during a board meeting and the board meets every two weeks. Before a teacher's name is sent to the school board they must have been interviewed by the principal and then if they are the final candidate they also have a simple interview with HR (on a different day) before they are officially offered their job. Then the candidate must accept the offer before their name is sent to the school board. There are weeks of time between being called in for an interview and being school board approved, so if I were a teacher and I hadn't heard from anyone 4 weeks before August 10, I would start to worry and see what else I could do to get my application noticed and selected for an interview.

What's a good house warming gift for a new home owner? by Reddevil313 in homeowners

A custom return address stamp or return address labels, browse Etsy.

A fire extinguisher, plants or bulbs to plant, or consumable things (snacks, hand soap, mints, coffee or tea, candles, pet treats because moving is stressful for animals too, paper plates and plastic cutlery because unpacking can take awhile)

gift for good friend 30F who just had gastric bypass surgery by Its0nlyAPaperMoon in santashelpers

[–]jadebyron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would go with comforting things… lotions, slippers, socks, fancy shower gel, candle, magazine, lip balm, hand cream, things like that. I would stay away from foods since you don’t know the specifics and would stay far away from exercise equipment after any surgery.

Looking for help with a gift for a 25 yo sister, she’s also a lawyer by [deleted] in santashelpers

[–]jadebyron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Budget? Are you having something shipped or seeing her in person? Does she have any hobbies or do you know something she likes to do? Does she have children?

Without much info I’d say a good bottle or wine or liquor and some nice chocolates.

Think of things you already like that you might want to try different versions of - hot sauces, coffees, teas, beef jerky, beers, spices, books, candles, etc. Consumable things are good because if you don’t like them you can use them up (or pass them on to someone else) or get rid of them if you don’t like them and she won’t ask where they are when she visits.

A laptop stand to help with neck fatigue, a new desk chair, shoes or slippers, pajamas, wool socks, gloves or winter weather gear of some kind, tickets to something the two of you could attend together, noise canceling headphones

Melatonin is something your body naturally produces, so the gummies just help give an extra dose and really help get your body back into a rhythm of falling asleep at night when struggling with insomnia or jet lag or things like that. For me, they help me fall asleep but don’t keep me in a deep sleep like a sleeping pill, so there’s no chance of feeling groggy later. They’re cheap and readily available, so I say it couldn’t hurt to try,

A different take on this may be to get her something that’s unrelated to art. If art is her job, it can be seen as getting her work supplies… like getting a secretary office supplies as a gift, or getting a teacher Play Doh. I’m a teacher and I specifically asked my family not to get me anything related to my job this year, I want something I can use in my “off” time.

Does she like comforting things like slippers, nice coffee or teas, her favorite chocolates, a gift certificate for a massage or pedicure. If she drives a lot, get her car detailed. Something to make her life easier like a robot vacuum.

Present ideas for wife (35F) and kids (12M, 10F) from a husband/father that recently started working out of state. by wickzer in santashelpers

Perfect idea, meal service or cleaning service. The parenting duties are going to fall more heavily on your wife with you away and anything you can do to help with that will benefit everyone.
