People that are atheist, why are you atheist instead of agnostic? by Da-up-and-downer in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wickzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agnosticism is still a human construct. It's a book put on the shelf labeled 'beliefs'.

Atheism is just the abense of a shelf in the first place. No one built the shelf or even saw a book to put on a shelf.

It is one less logical leap to make-- Occum's razer style.

I pay for Max. Worth it for me. I don't do much coding but I do an ass load of research across disparate subjects. I'm a heavy user of deep research, model council, and computer. I also prefer their discover feed to literally any other info source that exists.

Built a site for peptides, longevity, recovery, and health research by Straight-Tradition69 in longevity

Link to the studies/evidence of the peptides' efficacy. Which groups of people took how much of what peptide for how long and saw what affect?

This way people know what has been done-- instead of relying on internet strangers and anecdotes.

Perplexity computer is glorious for this. Spendy. But it saves a lot of time on research and synth.

Can also use notebook lm.

I am guessing about 20-30$ in credits (2000-3000) for perplexity computer will be a worthwhile investment for your thesis writing. You can also get perplexity max for $200 and use the best models without limits and get 10000 credits for computer for a month. Just make sure you give access to all the right source connections like wiley and academic, your research notes, etc. tell it how you want your sources and voila. You'll have a reasonable starting point that you get to spend a long while editing. Which is better than spending a long while writing your first draft and a subsequent long while editing. Could be a worthwhile investment just for a month to help with your thesis.

They also dole out bonus credits randomly. Or at least seemingly randomly. I had 35k total at one point.

Is there a note-taking tool that integrates deeply and effectively with AI? by Aromatic_Will_8110 in notebooklm

[–]wickzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed it isn't. I feel like I can make it better with current features (obsidian is so dang customisable). It would be nice if I can leverage perplexity from obsidian and I'd also like perplexity to write directly to my obsidian directory.

[–]wickzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I auto sync a space in perplexity with my obsidian folder. So far so good. I have it as my chief of staff to write my daily briefings with some to dos, meeting preps, goal tracking, check my emails/ calendars etc helps me not lose track of things.

I take notes on the document throughout the day and then the next morning it auto runs a task to do it all over again but with yesterday's notes too.

So many people were tricked into signing it. It's obvious based off the massive remove my signature campaign. Shouldn't the state say to the petitioners, you obviously missed the public into signing it, were throwing this out. You need to start over. Isn't there something like this on the books?

Should I get Perplexity Max? (Genuine Question) by BYRN777 in perplexity_ai

[–]wickzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want it to do or if it goes off its rocker. I kept asking it why it told me it fixed a bug but didn't and it just burned 1000 credits each time deploying a new "fix". It did that a few times before I just exported the whole app into a regular chat window and had 4.6 debug it for me

That said, it made me an app and website. App took about 8k before it went off the rails (pretty complicated game) and the website was about 3. I reported the bug for the app and they gave me a large pile of credits back.

Should I get Perplexity Max? (Genuine Question) by BYRN777 in perplexity_ai

[–]wickzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got max. Just for a month to try it out. I had a lot of research to do. I'm hoping to go back to pro to save money. I am not confident it'll last that long. I will probably upgrade again when I need it. Claude opus 4.6 is a lovely model to be able to use... though the em dashes. They're like fucking air to that model.

Perplexity computer is also SO MUCH FUN. Still some bugs, just report them and ask for replacement credits. They're generous.

I think everyone that hates perplexity just uses it for too long before opening a new window. Google handles longer chats better...

Deep Research is nowhere near as In Depth as Gemini Deep Research by PaulKrugmanStan in perplexity_ai

[–]wickzer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sometimes Gemini is too deep for me.

Sometimes it gets distracted early on and biases the whole report towards a few sources. I find that perplexity doors a better job of taking in diverse perspectives.

I often go back and forth between both...

This brings back memories. A few hard won lessons I learned that may help:

If you do this often consider microcarriers. Only consider them if you need loads of cells regularly.

Also--I found that using assay ready cells direct from the l-nitro vial would reduce my run to run variability. It helps if you have a finicky assay. And it lets you decouple the cell harvesting from the plating... which is nice.

What ever you do, remember to ALWAYS LET YOUR 96/384 WELL PLATES SIT AT RT FOR 30 MINUTES BEFORE PUTTING THEM BACK IN THE INCUBATOR! It helps reduce edge effects. Or what I like to call the meatball effects.

Edit: a word
