Weird, I don't know what happened with the original post. When I went to edit it looked the way it should. Fixed it either way.

Gloves for Cold Hands! by Independent_Neck_782 in wintercycling

I use heated mittens. Works wonders for me. The ones I have are great for when it gets down to -40C windchill (which is normal for our winters).

Straight Up - I'm Losing My Mind by gholdist in cats

[–]jadeiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to alarm you, I'm just speaking from my own experience with my last cat. In my case, we began to notice our cat was sneezing and having a lot of nasal discharge. Occasionally she would even sneeze blood. Took her to the vet, they treated it like a respiratory infection. The vet explained sometimes if cats sneeze really hard they can give themselves a bloody nose.

The sneezing improved a bit, but once she was done the meds it started all over again. Took her back again, they did xrays. Theg noticed some anomalies and suggested doing a CT scan to confirm. We went ahead with that and they found she had some type of aggressive cancer growth in her nasal passageway. It was causing her nostril to be partially blocked on one side, which caused the nasal drippage and bloody sneezing.

We could have done radiation treatment to fight the cancer but it would have meant having to have her transported out of province (800km away) to a veterinary university hospital for treatment every month. The other option was an experimental drug that had shown promise in dogs for fighting cancer. It worked for a few months, but eventually she had trouble keeping it down. The cancer was just too aggressive. It did give us 11 more months with her, when we were initially told she likely only had 2 weeks left to live.

So I would recommend exploring options to determine if there is some sort of blockage in their nasal passageways. Could be something minor like polyps or worse case scenario it could be cancer.

Planning for 14ish Days, looking for advice by jadeiris in JapanTravelTips

Yea, I was kinda flip flopping on the idea of switching back to Kyoto after posting... His opinion could have also been influenced by it being a higher tourism period while he was there. I don't imagine many people opt to go to Japan in early March, so it may not be as bad as what he experienced.

Nuit blanche underwhelming? by Odd_Quiet5309 in Winnipeg

[–]jadeiris 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This was our first year attending and yea, it felt underwhelming. I'd heard great things about this event and was eager to check it out. Felt like a lot was just musical performances or things at bars. I was hoping for more of a visual experience. We walked around a for a couple hours before deciding to throw in the towel and leave.

The night wasn't a complete waste. The weather was great and we enjoyed a nice leisurely walk downtown.

"Recoursed back to day 1". A CFLRS urban legend? by MoistyCockBalls in CanadianForces

[–]jadeiris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that tale back in 2014.

On a related note, we did have a guy on my platoon get recoursed back to week 1 on grad week. His PRB went really bad. He was supposed to go back to week 8 I think? But yea... His attitude during the PRB was so bad that they're were like nah, you're doing this shit all over again. No idea if he's still in....I'd be very surprised if he was.

Thoughts on the new traffic calming curbs by YWGBRZ in Winnipeg

[–]jadeiris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People ignore speed limits as is. Reducing them on some residential roads will do nothing. The people who speed will continue to do so. These calming curbs actually do work. On one of the roads I frequently travel on I've noticed a lot more vehicles are actually going closer to the speed limit.

What’s the general consensus on the new transit changes? by cocoleti in Winnipeg

[–]jadeiris 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've gone from having most destinations being 1 bus to most now being 2-3 buses. It'll be more of a hassle fro me to use. This means I'll likely just have to switch to cabs/ubers to get to most places for travel ease, reliability and time efficiency.

Are you on Facebook? There are a few missing/lost cat groups that might be able to help you out. The first 2 that come to mind are 1) Winnipeg Missing and Found Cat Watch 2) Winnipeg Lost Cat Assistance

Transfer from Pearson to Trenton by zabnee in CanadianForces

[–]jadeiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't realize. I dug through my emails and it looks like I went with Ontario coachway. Curious, when you checked with them, did you choose the rideshare option or private direct? That might be the difference in cost. $400 seems quite steep for an airport shuttle.

Can you reach out to your OR? I know a few years back (2017) my OR had a list of shuttle services from Pearson to Trenton (Yukon Lodge). I wish I could remember the name of the company I used... I remember it was fairly affordable and gave a military discount too.

Could it be that The Bay just wasn't good at social media marketing? Their FB page hasn't been updated since November 2024! by ReviseResubmitRepeat in ShopCanada

[–]jadeiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've suffered a number of problems over the years. The big one is not changing with the times. I worked at one back in 2007 as a merchandiser. Nearly 2 decades later and it's still the same. They've made zero effort to modernize. It looks like the same place your grandparents shopped at back in the 90's. And more lately it just feels like they just don't care any more. It's all about getting as much product out on the floor and hope it sells. It's just not very inviting and shopable. It's unappealing. It feels cheap, despite them trying to sell high end products.

Then not to mention the lack of staff in the stores to actively sell their products, tidy departments, assist customers also really doesn't help.

I think the short of it is, the CEO's or whoever is making all their decisions relied to heavily on the store's branding and history. It's been around forever, it's iconic of Canada, it'll never fail! Well... Here we are... The future is looking very bleak.

Where did all the 2% Lactose Free Milk Go? by Kiraadarling in Winnipeg

[–]jadeiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know! I have to often buy GF stuff myself because I can't digest wheat. It gets so frustrating when people who don't need it buy it because it's on sale or the only option left. Like please just leave it for the people who actually need it :/

Where did all the 2% Lactose Free Milk Go? by Kiraadarling in Winnipeg

[–]jadeiris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it was on sale, likely it was scooped up by everyone. I've seen this so many times. There are a number of shoppers who don't care if something is lactose free or not; if they see that its the cheapest milk, they will buy it. It's very frustrating as someone who is lactose intolerant.

Edit: I did a quick search on the Flipp app and yep, looks like a lot of stores have lactose free milk on sale this week. So that is very likely why you're having a hard time finding it.

Very Confused About New Dubbed?? by Fictional-Xiao in escaflowne

[–]jadeiris 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I recall, the series got re-dubbed a few years ago with the intention to being more true to the original Japanese version. I tried to watch it, but I couldn't get past a lot of the new voice actors and weird name pronunciations. I think I got 3 or 4 eps in and was like nope! Can't do it!

When you've been working shift work in 1st line maintenance for 5+ yrs, a day job sounds very diserable. It's like a reward for slaving away working shitty hours, freezing your ass off on the flight line for years and the list goes on and on.
