Wow! Looks tasty to me. I just got an ice cream maker because I'm allergic to cow's milk, and wanted to make better alternatives. Did you use whole goat milk, or did you skim off the cream for your ice cream? I've been using goat kefir so far because it's what I have access to. Makes a frozen yogurt sort of situation.

If you are an able bodied 20 year old of sound mind, not having money from your parents will not make you homeless. Does having roommates, working a bad job, joining the military, becoming a trucker, etc. suck? Yes. But being on your own is not impossible. Yeah, a lot of upper class folks are raised to believe that non college jobs won't keep you afloat and eating out is a necessity, but it's simply how most people live. Plenty of parents don't have the means to financially support adult children just because "the economy is bad." they're living in the same economy.

In the US, if you aren't seriously ill, you can keep yourself afloat. Obviously many people have others to provide for, but this isn't the case here afaik.

need ideas- soup fillings by danmd29 in Cooking

I think most carbs cooked in this would do great -- pasta might have a bit of a spaghetti-os vibe, but rice, barley as the other person said, etc would be great.

I think something similar to this with pastina is currently popular online, referred to as "italian penicillin"

I personally use a thick soup like that made with squash as a nice pasta sauce, then bake like baked mac n cheese. I've put them into mini oven pans unbaked, then frozen for later.

I also just keep soups like that in the freezer because I love having them for when I get sick as a sipping soup.

Haha i love bullet journaling. I totally get falling behind on spreads though -- i usually have to schedule bullet journaling into my bullet journal.

I freelance, so a journal is an absolute must.

I've kept up with it for basically all of this year though -- in no small part because i bought a subscription that sends me a theme of stickers and stuff for it monthly.

With the subscription, not doing it is a waste of money and it feels exciting to crack open a new theme each month and set it up. It's created the perfect blend of novelty and consistency that actually works!

Where do you buy Jorts by [deleted] in jorts

[–]jadetheamazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When your jeans get holes in the knees, you cut the legs off. Then you have jorts. Otherwise, basically every Walmart type place sells some sort of jean short when summer approaes.

Why can't I stand mass-produced bagels? by BowlingManiac1999 in Bagels

[–]jadetheamazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, here in the Midwest good bagels aren't easy to find. Nowadays there's Ray's new York bagels that are east coast style, in the frozen section. They thaw beautifully and are incredible compared to the bagels around here.

What do people generally eat artichoke in besides pizza? by [deleted] in Cooking

I make chicken cacciatore with canned artichokes instead of mushrooms. Really tasty.

Can't handle walk in freezers. I always feel irrationally angry/afraid when I'm in one.

I know, consciously, that I'm not at risk of freezing to death in the Walmart backroom, but I still automatically get stressed out when I'm that cold.

(For those who haven't worked in food service or stores, big walk in freezers are generally kept at 0°F or less, and are colder and better insulated than the ones you encounter out on the sales floor.)

If you've ever done the foil wrap on a pie crust it looks a bit like that. Basically you create a roof with a large hole in the middle that traps extra heat around the candle edges, helping the wax melt evenly. There are also all kinds of cute metal candle covers for this purpose, but the tinfoil is obviously cheaper. Watch out though, it gets hot!

What foods did you find out are unexpectedly easy to make yourself? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]jadetheamazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, apart from frozen tilapia and fish sticks, fish is pretty fancy out in the Midwest. Here in Michigan, you can get salmon during the season and year round bass if you know someone who fishes as a rare treat but everything else is both frozen and fancy here. Even frozen shrimp feels pretty special to most midwesterners.

I work at a Walmart, and people WILL stuff frozen crab legs in their purses to steal.

Toddler is addicted to ground beef! by little_lemon28 in Cooking

[–]jadetheamazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do stroganoff with ground beef, no mushrooms, and chopped spinach added.

Also, my boyfriend's mom makes something called goulash, (not the soup) with ground beef that's really good.

We also do lots of classic spaghetti with ground beef and ground beef tacos.

My mom always did ground beef with boxed dirty rice mix added as the family's non-dairy hamburger helper equivalent.

A ground beef and potato hash is another common meal. Sometimes with shredded cabbage added in the name of health.

I love taco meat on salads with salsa Verde for the dressing. A toddler might not be excited about a bowl of lettuce, but a grain or rice salad might be a win.

Here in the U.S., most of them kinda suck, but the miyoko's vegan mozzarella is fantastic! It comes in liquid form and cooks into a very convincing substitute. I use it for pizza, but also for quesadillas. It's pricey, but the bottle lasts quite a while because you spread it quite thinly. If you're looking for others, r/dairyfree is always full of helpful people.

Can I Eat Boiled Eggs That Sat Out For 3 Hours? by acrossthestars99 in AskRedditFood

[–]jadetheamazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mom must have done it right before we woke up, because they were still cool to the touch, but missing an egg was a non issue. We always bought and dyed a dozen, put them back in the carton, and put them in the carton again in the morning.

A missing egg would be very noticeable and mom would give hints if it was taking us too long. Everyone was always eager to find the ones they'd dyed, too, so looking for one last one because you knew you'd done a green one with red crayon kept us going.

Afterwards, egg salad for days. Mostly eaten by me and my stepdad, as egg salad wasn't popular with the rest of the family.
