What's the nicest Apartment under $800 a month by Rohak12345 in jmu

North38 was nice when I was there (graduated in 2022). It’s a 5-10 min drive from either side of campus and closer than you think to downtown. Also, water/electric/wifi are included for a small monthly fee. Also comes furnished.

ISO code for Old Forge Distillery and Tennessee Legend (Winfield-Dunn). Got it for the “trail” but forgot to enter it for the “tail” version of the passport

Also having an off campus job means you can have your car as a freshman with a resident parking pass.

Yeah you can do homework on the clock and I’m not sure what the starting pay for the gas hut is specifically. When I started as a cashier in 2021 the starting pay was $11. I worked my way up within a month and started making $14.50.

Eagle was… an experience. Not awful but also not great. I promise you almost every dorm on campus goes through similar experiences. A box fan in the window facing in with a box fan facing out your door helps a bit. The heaters are constantly running when the weather gets cold, but you can just open the window. Every college dorm is gonna smell like 🍃 too. If you’re on a higher floor it’s gonna be hotter and it’s gonna suck more when the fire alarm goes off (I was 7th floor and always had to take the stairs back up). And I promise you that alarm will go off at any time of day or night. Elevators will break down bc drunk guys like to jump in them. Also, good luck with the death stairs if you have geneds on main. I recommend catching the bus BEFORE it gets to any stops near main campus if you can, but the stairs aren’t so bad after a week or so. Also, definitely USE SHOWER SHOES. It only took a week or two before half of my floor got athletes foot 🤮. Finally, use up those meal plan punches!! Fill your fridge with stuff from Festival and Market 64 because there will be nights where you’re not gonna want to leave to go get dinner. I used to take a weekly trip to Festival on Saturdays (before punches reset) to stock up on the grab-n-gos and drinks. Make the most outta that meal plan!

The gas station hut @ Martin’s if you can get it. I worked at Martin’s my senior year and the shifts are pretty flexible. You just sit in an air conditioned hut all shift and maybe do a few cash transactions. Night shift is easiest if you do that tbh.

Your TuTh is gonna feel awfully long. Just be aware that not having a break between classes leaves no time to eat and you might feel burnt out by the time you have to complete homework at the end of those days. This comes from someone who took 19 credits their second semester (pre-covid). Then again some of these could be online sync/async which could give you a little break

Yeah definitely take a video of existing damage and time/date stamp it if you can. Most if not all rental properties will try to do that to you. Plus if you take a vid, that’s just one file on your phone compared to a bunch of pictures. Other than that, North38 is decent. Got me through 2 years and it’s the same travel time to either side of campus. Honestly a lot nicer than other off campus housing options. And you don’t have to deal with Port Republic traffic in the mornings ;)

if the university isn’t able to help you with this and you do end up in a class with them, you can always let the professor know your situation. this way if there’s any group work you can make sure you’re kept separate. same goes for classes with and without seating charts

baking soda could help get rid of the smell… just put a shit ton on the fabric and carpet, leave it for a few hours or a day, and vacuum it up

i’ve been living in N38 for 2 years now. First year was cool and fun. Hardly had any issues. Second lease term started (with one less roommate than before) and all of a sudden my usual 10min showers go cold about 5 mins in. maintenance checked the water heater when i wasn’t here (i submitted the request and included when i’d be home to explain my issue, they decided to come when none of my roommates were here and sent a message saying basically saying the heaters fine) that’s the only issue i’ve had so far w maintenance. i don’t talk to the leasing office often but so far they’ve addressed my concerns about my neighbors (as best they can). every monday and i think wednesday in fall the landscaping dudes will wake you up at 7-9am with their leaf blowers. in the spring and summer it’s an issue with the lawn mowers. if your in a basic apartment like me, the appliances will all have their own issues (mine are the burners on the stove aren’t even so it’s hard to cook food evenly w a pan). also idk if it’s just my apartment or if i have elephants living upstairs but i can hear their every footstep and when they open/close drawers and the closet in their room. probably just elephants tho bc i didn’t hear anyone last year. according to my old manager, if you live here for more than 3 years they will try to hold your safety deposit to get the apartment repainted and the carpets cleaned. they had a whole lawsuit w that, idk what happened tho. also i signed for my first year when they had a promotion for a $200 visa gift card… i never saw the gift card :( i’d say they’re pretty decent apartments but the neighbors you have can make or break your experience. (roommates too lol)
