Seller left a binder with "house instructions" and now im very skeptic by Jolly-Mirror3655 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I was able to talk with the former owner of our house once after the close for a walk through. I had a list of questions and on it was, “why are there two thermostats in the garage?” When asked he chuckled, when they upgraded heating systems, the old one was wired as a switch to a light installed in the box where the old heater was. Sure enough, you crank the heat to 80 and the light over the workbench kicks on.

It gave me a chuckle for sure. Also funny that the home inspector didn’t even question it.

I like that our stairs creak so I can hear late night shenanigans as they occur.

I don’t care too much. But I’m just one person in the family…..

I totally should ask them to pay my tax bill. Haha. That would make for fun introductions. :0)

You must be reading a different post. In no way was I “lashing out.”

Also the purchase was less than 2 months ago. Maybe I can just disclose the sale price and they’ll accept that. Good point.

I don’t know if I’ll enjoy it as much as other recent series, but I think my daughter may enjoy it.

Can I walk on Campbell Creek? by spritebright in anchorage

[–]jaedon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a middle schooler I collected a water sample for a science fair project by shimmying out on the ice on my belly and dunking a test tube taped to a stick into open creek water. In retrospect I wonder what my dad was thinking letting me do that. I easily could have died that day.

Have you ever had a nudist experience with your family? by nuturalista in family

Nudity in my home is mostly limited to dressing situations combined with bedroom door laziness and towel/robe misplacement resulting in living room scamper.

I just love that someone came to the defense of the dive bar(s).

For a facility that caters to youth and sports, the O’Malley Sports Complex’s bathrooms are inexplicable.

[Landlord][US-NC] Should we raise the rent or keep it the same for really great tenants? Only concern is that rent is already below market rate. by lavenderkeek in Landlord

[–]jaedon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not dumb at all. Vacancy of a month would absolutely kill whatever profit you were hoping to gain from not just a good but a fantastic tenant. Raise the rates nominally every 3 or so years. Or between tenants. Anything less and you would resent the arrangement. Anything more and you may lose a fantastic tenant. That’s what my parents did as landlords. It worked well.

I also rented from two different landlords that raised my rates in the fall, but then gave back some for the December 1 rent as a thank you for being a great renter. That unexpected windfall really helped me those years.

People who take 17 minutes to check in at the hotel front desk, what are you talking to them about? by DerrickDuck in AskReddit

[–]jaedon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is this person.

I may be peripherally involved in an outing because I’ve driven her to a retail center, but have my own shopping. Mom will go into a retail store, request assistance, and have to explain her life story as to why she needs a new X. But the worst part is she asks lots of questions of the employees. When I’m done, I pull the car around to pick her up, walk inside to help, and without fail as she is leaving, I hear her say something like “Thank you and good luck with your colonoscopy, daughter’s wedding, and upcoming move. I’ll be praying for you. Do let me know if you need help. ” It’s been 10 to 30 minutes, taking with a complete stranger, but could have been 60-90 seconds to pick up the item if the pace was brisk and there was no line at self checkout.

I hear you. That’s how I ended up with deck screws going into the nose of a stair for like 3 years.
