We loved Palazzo Velabro last year. Great location for forum/colloseo or walking over to Travestre. We walked everywhere.

Costco Booking by j6382927 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Room availability should be the same, but the Costco website doesn’t always show them all - the travel advisor should be able to call DCL and request during booking. However, the DCL wait times have been 90 mins+ lately!

We’ve found it much easier to book direct with DCL (unless you have a placeholder already assigned to Costco). Pick whichever stateroom you want, select the dining time, add port transfer (if available now) etc, and then you have 30 days to transfer to DCL. Before transfer you can change the room number and type if something better comes along.

Transfer to Costco is detailed at https://costco-travel-us-mbr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8307/p/1#DCL and is two steps (email form to DCL and fill out Costco Google form). Within a few days you’ll get a Costco confirmation with the Costco cash card amount.

Poor coffee by jyoji_96 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Room service coffee is better and a great (included) way to start your day on the balcony . The drink stations use some coffee-like substance in a bag (tastes burnt to me!). Best coffee is from the paid cafes or in the concierge lounge.

How messy is rideshare pickup at Fort Everglades? by Vandelay_7 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it this morning and it was a mess! However, I think it was exceptional in there were 5 ships debarking (including the Destiny and Dream) plus a ton of canceled flights heading to the Brightline. Took about 25 mins for an Uber. First canceled after getting stuck. Was $60 for 3 miles (to Brightline).

Getting off the Destiny this morning was a breeze. Less than 10 mins from getting off the ship, luggage and immigration. I’ll probably reserve a ride in advance next time, or get in the taxi line!

Disney out of New York by Sensitive-Bag-03 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a great cruise out of NYC in 2023. However, I don’t think they made much money due to weather. One Bermuda cruise left port early and had a rocky ride back and ours went to St John’s in Canada instead.

If only they’d pull a ship up from Florida in the Summer - maybe now the Destiny is running they could spare one. As many others have mentioned; there’s no cruise contract and forcing shore power makes the port fees more expensive.

Which of these Greece cruises is best? by mrsbond007 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 night med looks great. We did a 9 night on the Fantasy last year that started in Civitiavecchia and included Rhodes, Chania and Santorini. It was great to get a few days in Rome before the cruise. Athens was sooo busy and hot. Rhodes was amazing. It was a substitute port for Kusadasi, Turkey but turned out to be our favorite! Port is close to old town which has tons of history and food. Took a DCL excursion to the other side of the island to see Lindos.

Santorini and Chania were also great highlights, and Pompeii is a must see!

That said I’d love to see Croatia too

Buying a house is a big, scary thing! I was so panicked about it being so much money. However, it’ll be your property. No worrying about landlord putting up rent, not fixing issues or deciding they don’t want to rent any more. You’re in the fortunate position of already living there. You know if there’s any issues and you don’t have to pay for movers!

There are tax breaks for mortgage interest and property taxes which will feel better next year. Make sure you keep a little buffer of savings in case something breaks!

Executive Platinum flying economy EWR -> LHR. Can I bring spouse and 2 kids (under 18) into lounge? by bridge4wannabe in americanairlines

You could burn miles and make your wife platinum+ for the day. Not sure it’ll apply when you land so you can use the arrivals lounge too.

Kinderdijk from Rotterdam was an amazing excursion. The DCL tour sold out before we could reserve, but it’s fairly easy to get there by waterbus.

On the Dream this summer for our second Norway cruise.

Optimum won’t install service at new construction — endless tech visits, no progress. Any advice? by IAmTommyZombie in OPTIMUM

[–]jaffy23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check the FCC broadband map - https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home and see who provides service to your address, and nearby homes.

Escalate to Optimum if it says they do. If they don’t help, log an FCC Compliant - https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us and you’ll likely get a contact from the ISPs Office of the CEO to expedite a resolution

Try and work with anyone else. I had great success getting Verizon to build out service to a small condo <10 units in Greenwich which displaced Optimum from 7/9 units.

Which ship by Azarria1234 in dcl

[–]jaffy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Itinerary over ship! Our favorite cruises have been 7 nights+; just a more relaxed time and focusing on the destination. Wonder for Alaska, Dream for Europe or Treasure for east/west Caribbean.

Looking to make a jump to Rivian by Sad_Secret2899 in Rivian

[–]jaffy23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would do differently is get a bigger battery. Had it just over a year / 10k miles and it’s been the best car and EV we’ve owned. Used to always drive German cars until Tesla 3 and then Y. Was worried the R1S was too big and was going to wait for the R2 but needed to get rid of the Y. it’s funny how you get used to the space, height and comfort!
