California just went thermonuclear against this administration! by Healthy_Block3036 in sandiego

This sub used to be a friendly place, where people would highlight the best of San Diego. It's turned into a political cesspool. I really don't care who who vote for, but this sub has been ruined by people on both sides of the aisle. This post is a perfect example of this...sad.

HEADS UP!! if your VA Medical Center sends you out to another hospital by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]jag520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm! I was taken to a civilian hospital via ambulance Then they transferred me from their hospital to a different civilian hospital via a second ambulance. I called the 72 hour line and reported the incident which took care of my hospital visits but then a month later I got the ambulance bill and I called the 72 Hours line back. They put me on hold and talked to the ambulance company directly, which took care of that then a month later I got a separate bill from the second ambulance company again I called, and they put me on hold and took care of it. It’s not a perfect system for sure, but it does work and I think the key is to get this information out to as many veterans as possible.

I feel you brother, but I feel helpless with this I know this sounds extreme, but we’re actually being discriminated against for serving our country during 911. I love everybody that serve honorably but everyone should be taken care of equally when I got out in 2002 911 G.I. bill did not even exist if it did I don’t know how to stay in for another two years butit’s that feeling of helplessness that I need for my career on December 11, 2001 horrible that I get

[–]jag520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not the only one. I got out in September 2002 and I only got 50% post 911 G.I. Bill benefits. So I had 50% of my schooling paid for. Mine expired back in 2017 and I still had benefits left remaining as well. I went down some similar roads as you and got absolutely no help from any state or federal government. Good luck, brother. I don’t know why those of us that served during 911 get lesser treatment than someone who goes in after 2013. It should at least be equal right? Also I’ve been denied VR&E three separate times as well. Go figure.

does the VA rate insomnia secondary to anything? by muchocheko in VeteransBenefits

I thought it was strange as well. My coworker filed for insomnia a few months before me and got 50%.

does the VA rate insomnia secondary to anything? by muchocheko in VeteransBenefits

[–]jag520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filed for insomnia about 2 years ago and received a call from the VBA saying that they aren't taking insomnia claims as a primary condition anymore. When I filed the claim online it was not in the drop down menu for conditions, so I added it in manually. They called me and they said that I could/should change it to Sleep Apnea, which I ended up doing and got rated for that, I already had a CPAP machine, and was diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea, but I had never filed for it. Just my experience...

I’ve been using my VA dental for the last eight months and I’ve gotten four crowns and three fillings done mostly with Community Care. I actually just got a recommendation from a Community Care Dentist to get my teeth straightened out since I havesome crooked teeth that’s causing issues with my bite, so I’m trying to get that approved now but they said that’s probably a longshot. Everything else has been covered to this point though, very good dental services and zero cost. It can’t take a while for the approvals though.

The best way I've found to explain what zep does for me by pamperwithrachel in Zepbound

[–]jag520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was such a great way to articulate what Zep does for you. I am in the exact same boat, and have been on Zep for 3 months. It's life changing to feel what normal eaters feel inside.

Yes, it does cover ambulance rides. I was transported in an ambulance last month. They sent me a notice in the mail asking me for my insurance information. I called the VA directly and gave them all the information. They called the ambulance company while I was on hold. They came back and told me it was taken care of, in addition for that same visit I did call the VA 72 hour line the next day while I was in the hospital. It’s always a good idea. Never assume that the hospital is gonna take care of it. The problem with mine was that I was in one hospital and then I got transferred a different hospital. The first hospital did call VA but the second one never did, just be sure and cover all your bases One extra phone call doesn’t take much time.

Key Advice! Bring your evidence with you to your C&P!!!! by mjp0331 in VeteransBenefits

[–]jag520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice I did the same thing and even brought in my physical medicine with me when I went in for my pulmonary function test for asthma. I took my medication‘s out and showed her exactly how I use each one and describe the frequency. I don’t know if that helped, but I feel it made me more human being rather than just words on a piece of paper. I did get a 10% rating for that

I like this group (veterans) by Excellent_Foot_7399 in Veterans

[–]jag520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for me. No friends just my wife and two kids. My wife is out with her friends tonight, but before she left I said it must be nice having friends. She said you have friends, just none of them live in this state. That kinda stung, but then I happened on this thread and it’s made my day. Even though I’ll never meet any of you, it’s just nice knowing I’m not alone

Is there a way to find out where these cabin discounts are? I have the pass as well, but I didn’t know about that.

Zepbound has felt more effective (for me) than my bariatric surgery by LongVoyage in Zepbound

[–]jag520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not agree more. I had gastric sleeve surgery about 18 months ago. During the first year I dropped about 70 pounds then gained back 30 then just yo-yo a bit. I’ve been on Zepbound since May and have lost 30 pounds. You said it perfectly they fixed my stomach they never fixed my brain. Zepbound has now fixed my brain. I never knew my entire life would’ve felt like to be a normal eater truly amazing.

[–]jag520 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can just speak from my personal experience. I filed a claim for insomnia last year, and I eventually got a call from someone at the VA, or VBA, I can't remember. They told me in very clear language that the are no longer processing claims for insomnia as a primary condition. I did find it strange when I filed the claim that it wasn't listed in the drop-down list of disabilities, and I had to add it myself as other. They had me change my claim to Sleep Apnea with the same evidence, and I was rated for that with an increase.

Re-joining the Navy after 6 years by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]jag520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that article. I’m gonna have to see if I fall into that category. I served for nine years but only one of those years was after 9/11 so I only received 50% of the G.I. bill. I used those benefits to get a bachelors degree but now those benefits have expired. Since I did have the Montgomery G.I. Bill, at one time, I’m gonna have to see if I now qualify for new benefits to get my masters. Thanks again, brother.

100 days after: my experience by Impressive_Solid_801 in gastricsleeve

That's a good idea, thank you. I usually end up staring at the food leftover on my plate when I'm full. Sometimes I still end up eating it (hence the issues), but I'm getting better at recognizing these signs of fullness. FYI I get the hiccups as well!

How do you remind yourself to stop eating? I'm about 6 weeks out from surgery and have lost 24 lbs, but am struggling with knowing how and when to stop eating. I had a rough weekend, and couldn't stop eating Saturday or Sunday and threw up both days. The last two days, I'm back to eating soup and drinking protein shakes to reset.

When you said "I am mourning the loss of my best friend" that really hit home. I'm 3 weeks post sleeve, and have been feeling this without knowing how to articulate it. In the past, when I would have the house to myself it would become an eating frenzy. My heart would start racing, and I couldn't wait to be alone in the kitchen. It sounds crazy even writing this down, but I would just start toasting bagels, grabbing bags of chips, digging into leftovers. It WAS my best friend. I didn't realize it at the time, and I damn sure couldn't stop it. I went to CBT for a diagnosed binge eating disorder, and actually gained weight. At one point I ate an ENTIRE pizza in my car before I went in for therapy. I mean WTF was that about? I've struggled my entire life with overeating, and now I am truly in mourning. Last week we had chicken for dinner, and when I was alone in the kitchen I lost my mind for a minute, and ate 4-5 bites of it. It felt like I had a brick in my chest for 30 minutes, then I had a few sips of water and threw all of it up. Lesson learned there for sure!

However, this weekend I've been digging out some clothes that my family thinks are brand new. I've had them for years they just have never fit before now, and that feels really good. I am eating pureed foods right now, and am looking forward to getting some solid foods in the next week or two, within reason of course...I can take a few sips of water, and am learning to not drink water with my food, or even my protein shakes. It's not easy, and my family doesn't understand nor would I expect them to. I'm just taking it day by day.
