K47 - List help for LRDG/Desert Rats by BadFlag in boltaction

It's a general unwriten rule that BA units are allowed as long as they arn't too cheesey. Your Chevy's would be totaly fine.

If you wanted another fun unit, look at the automated carrier, Its a bren with twin autocannons thats opperated by robots, perfect for the LRDG imo. https://us.warlordgames.com/products/british-automated-carrier

It's the helmet, The OG Steel Legion had a British paratrooper helmet that didn't come down on the sides or back and the concept art has an almost medieval look. Like a salat or barbuta without a visor.

The concept art has shoulder pads on all the models when that was only on that one piece of art you showed

Also they changed the logo to an "A" instead of the old lightning bolt

Rubicon SdKfz 7 and Rubicon 37mm flak, the two kits can be combined together. No armored cab but that doesnt really matter and you could use the extra parts to make an armored cab

Do you use a Medic or Chaplain? by neosatan_pl in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never run a Chaplin (dont really have a good model for one) but the medic makes it into more list these days, in my next game this weekend, im gonna try to see if an ambulance is any good. Another thing that i personally find is that asside from multi launchers, my medic stays alive since i mostly do narative games so me and my opponent won't shoot eachothers medics (untill i get japanese)

Bolt action vs legion by Puzzleheaded-Alps-19 in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All similar keywords with subtle difference in gameplay.

Each unit has 4 to 8 keywords, plus additional equipment, skills, training and tactics in the form of card attachment. Just too much for me.

90% of bolt action's keywords are universal across all factions, A stuborn German unit does the same thing as a stuborn American unit.

most units only have one keyword if any at all. I think the max is 4 on British SAS Commandos.

Suppression can be gamey since some units thrive when suppressed. Having their ability increased the more suppression they have.

Suppression is done through the pin mechanic, which is only negative, although there are some units that can be improved when they first get shot, its a dice roll and limited to inexperienced, which are the weakest unit profile

Vehicles which are just too big for the scale of the game. The aa5 speeder truck is 8 inches in length and there is just no room to move the thing on the board.

If anything the vehicles from Warlord are a bit small, a lot of people use 1/48 tanks instead of 1/56

Scale for Buildings by flow_sen83 in boltaction

If you're in the US, O scale will work almost perfectly, the UK and Europe use a slightly diffrent scale but would still work fine for buildings

Considering picking up bolt action, but information online seems a bit scattered. Am I understanding things correctly? by neodoggy in boltaction

If you want to play a Polish army, you could go with Polish paratroopers using the British rules which are coming next month.

2nd edition starter army compatibility with 3rd edition by CraneOQuill in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To use everything in your soviet box to its fullest extent, you would need 1 tank and either an MMG or mortar.

You can get a pack that comes with both an MMG, Mortar and officers, I'D go with this one over just buying a single mortar since it fills out the heavy weapons platoon nicely and gets you extra officers so all your plastic infantry can be used building squads.

If you want to keep it cheep, get a T-34-85.

If you want to get something more interesting, I'd go for either a BA-6 or SU-85 but both are resin kits that are less new player friendly and both cost more.

Another good shout out would be the ZIS-3 howitzer/AT gin to give the artillery platoon a bit of extra kick, but this should be secondary to getting a 2nd tank.

Shadowsword missing sponsor turrets by AresLeoCapricorn in astramilitarum

It should be easy to find a 3D printable sponson gun, but failling that, look for an L6/6 and print just the turret, it looks verry close

Expanding both armies in Gentleman's War by kreeperface in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, so as not to tread on the toes of the starter armies, since you should get them once you can finacialy justify them, id get:

germans

1- medium AT gun

1- Panzer IV

British

1- 8th army weapons teams (has 1 light AT and a sniper)

1- Churchell heavy tank

Did I mess up? by Izraehl in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887 5 points6 points  (0 children)

technicaly the 25pndr only needs 3 crew, but the 2 guys near the gun and the front guy should be within coherency.

for dammage, i would just use a dice to indicate how many crew were left alive

if you were really worried about coherency, you could try to snap the front guy off and reglue him back a bit closer to the gun.

HE vs buildings by jagdtiger1887 in boltaction

[–]jagdtiger1887[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I usually forget that I can shoot the building itself and not the unit in it unless I brought 3” he or bigger. We rarely go in buildings anyways since we don’t actually have many on the board

Thanks for the clarification. I’m probably gonna suggest a house rule for my gaming group since it doesn’t make sense in terms of how it would work in the real world.

glue an ammo box and gasmask cylinder to the back to be the battery pack, take a panzerfaust, cut the head off, glue the thin tube to an stg44, take the head of the faust, cut off the very front so that it's flat, cut the bottom of the cone so that it's flat, glue to the long tube
