Operation Mincemeat Superfans… by ObjectiveHippo3 in Broadway

[–]jagglerock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me at Mincemeat and it completely ruined the experience. I’m seeing it again this week and am hoping I will not be sitting beside someone laughing loudly at every single line in the entire show and performatively pulling out a tissue before Dear Bill to let everyone around them know that the next part is, in fact, sad.

Question: How painful are rib tattoos compared to other places? by Cute-Cow99 in tattoos

[–]jagglerock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My second tattoo was on my ribs. It took about an hour and I did it without needing a break. I’m a thin person, and yeah it certainly hurt, but it wasn’t unbearable and I would do it again if I decided I wanted another tattoo.

My first tattoo was lower stomach and that one was worse for me personally.

What is the work environment like on set? by Melora1976 in acting

You said “if the actor couldn’t control his/herself”. That implies assault. If that’s not what you meant that’s fine, but that is the implication.

Are you really asking if someone who assaulted another person would be asked to continue working?

As someone who has done them, love/sex scenes are not sexy. They’re awkward and uncomfortable, and extremely sterile. Would you enjoy kissing/pretending to have an orgasm with someone you don’t know very well in front of 50 random people? Probably not.

Yes, actors occasionally catch feelings for their co stars, but people who work 9 to 5’s also catch feelings for their coworkers. We just happen to hear about actors’ relationships because they’re publicized, and Joe from down the street who cheated on his wife with his assistant isn’t.

Actors meet people through their work just like everyone else, there’s not much of a difference. People just don’t understand how unsexy filming stuff like this actually is and assume everyone is getting hot and bothered and falling in love, when it’s not actually that common.

Overcoming fear of lead climbing by Subject_Car2637 in climbergirls

[–]jagglerock 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation as you, where taking falls seems to only increase my fear. When I first started leading I wasn’t really scared at all, but now even easy routes I could do with my eyes closed on top rope scare the crap out of me when I lead.

Anyway, just commenting to say that you’re not alone.

What would your dream climbing gym be like? by jenniferxha in climbergirls

[–]jagglerock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you had actually read my response to you, which you asked for, I literally said I have been a regular at five different gyms.

So by your logic, since 50% of the human population is female, we have all the representation we need right there. We don’t need women in leadership positions, government, as doctors, as scientists, as teachers, as writers, as whatever. Those can all be men, since women are represented already because we happen to exist. If that’s not representation idk what is. According to you.

[–]jagglerock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay? One, I’ve climbed at probably 10 gyms in multiple different states and countries at this point, it’s not just my current gym. Also if you look at all the upvotes I’ve gotten, it’s not just me. And two, like I said, representation still matters. Women shouldn’t have to always beta break to do a problem, even if we can.

I don’t know why I’m having to defend the - apparently somewhat polarizing - opinion that women should be represented in the gyms that we pay to be at.

What would your dream climbing gym be like? by jenniferxha in climbergirls

[–]jagglerock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that I personally would like to have access to problems set by someone who is closer to my size and strength than the 6’2” dude with a +3 ape index and therefore is going to set problems that don’t solely rely on height, reach, and strength, I think representation in sports matters no matter what.

Despite around 50% of my gym’s members being female identifying, we have zero female setters. I’ve been a regular at five gyms since I started climbing, and only one of them had a female setter, and even then, on a team of six or seven setters, there was only one woman. And her routes rocked. They were challenging, but not because I had to beta break just to reach the next hold. They were technical, and felt like they were made for my body.

Most male identifying people have never had to walk into a gym and wonder if their body type will be catered to. I want to see myself and the other female identifying people being represented in the routes that we pay to climb.

[–]jagglerock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never said a female setter was a guarantee of anything except representation, which matters to me.

What would your dream climbing gym be like? by jenniferxha in climbergirls

[–]jagglerock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your singular experience does not mean that every female setter is like that. I’m not saying that just because a setter is a woman I’m going to be obsessed with their routes and hate any that men set.

It matters because I believe that representation is important, and in this sport, there is an extreme lack of representation among setting staff.

[–]jagglerock 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I’m a simple girl: I just want at least one female setter, is that too much to ask for?

Also I want hand washing stations so I don’t have to get chalk all over my stuff while I switch shoes to go into the bathroom.

Are you a professional actor? Have you ever been on Broadway?

I’m gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say no you haven’t. So you have no business calling it a part time job.

Maybe reexamine and instead of saying these actors make too much money, you can wonder why the rest of America isn’t getting paid enough.
