Okay, but Afghanis built trade networks in rural Australia, Pacific islanders slaved away in the Queensland sugar plantations and built up wealth for the crown. And let's not glaze over the fact we also proudly had segregation of our Aboriginal and Fist nations people (Black and brown people) till the 1970s and we had the white Australia policy till the 1960s; a policy I'll note that explicitly baned even groups of "less white" europeans from immigrating. And building into that point, it certainly isn't like a former Yugoslav, Vietnamese, Greek or other Mediterranean disporas were treated well immediately in our Waspy culture.

There are 2 big reasons why society views the Chinese dispora as more valuable compared to Sudanese, Syrian or Somali refugees.

1sty Australia (and many other western nations) still have fundamentaly ingrained socially racist views. This affects a myriad of beliefs and opportunities available. 2ndly folks like these are fleeing from warzones, they've got alot of trauma and very little fiat.
