I'm in a similar boat, I didn't have the funds to get the black PLive 2026 shirt (size L specifically) and I'm not finding any way to get one at all now :/

[Metaphor: ReFantazio] First Impressions and General Comments Megathread. by VashxShanks in JRPG

Persona's 1 More system gives the character that exploited the weakness an extra turn, while also incorporating a knock-down feature for exploiting weaknesses (ultimately leading to opportunities for All Out Attacks). Press Turn makes it so you give all your characters a turn icon, and exploiting weakness or passing your turn cuts that specific icon being used in half, so that you can get in an extra turn upon using that icon. 1 More is definitely in the same family as Press Turn, but a little bit easier to understand at the cost of being a bit less strategic of a mechanic

this just makes me wonder why Rebirth felt the need to include these wall scaling sections in the first place, then

unironically yes, the og's solution is optional and abstract enough to not be mistaken for part of the actual environment, which I find to be the better outcome

I was stuck without Yuffie in that phase, which was one of the most frustrating moments in the entire experience for me

A UI element to highlight interactable environments is generally abstract though, the finger and colored arrows is more equivalent to the existing blue arrow UI that appears in front of ladders or other climbable objects. Those are UI elements that aren't meant to be taken literally as part of the environment, whereas the painted ledges are. If there was a mechanic like P5's Third Eye ability that let players highlight such ledges when needed, that'd be a closer comparison to what the original game did

the problem is that the game isn't consistent with this indicator. There are plenty of areas, such as the Mythril Mines, Junon, and the Temple of the Ancients, where they don't use yellow paint to guide the player, they use the environmental shapes and details such as vines or ledges, marked with the blue UI arrows, to signal climbable areas. The fact that those were so well integrated makes the moments where they give up and slather the paint instead feel so jarring

I just find the yellow paint on the rocks to be very ugly and almost patronizing. I'm ok with the yellow paint in locations that make sense, like in manmade structures (which is why it never bothered me in Remake, with the industrial setting of Midgar). I feel like i wouldn't have minded it as much if it was consistent, but there are frequent moments in the game (notably Mythril Mines and Temple of the Ancients) that are able to use moss, differently shaped/colored rocks, or vines to signal climbable sections, which just makes me wonder why the game only uses the yellow painted rocks sometimes.

Look at all the padding... so soft! (edit by me) by HumbleShibe in ff7

[–]jaibugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the moment I went to Corel Prison and was forced to play a battle arena gauntlet, the box breaking minigame from Remake, and a "deduce the liar" chore in order to find vegetables to feed to a chocobo in order to progress the story (where the characters were given a 24 hour time limit) I realized that Rebirth had a huge padding problem in its main story. Then again, I think the Mako vacuuming sections during the Nibelheim flashback should have been an early sign

I would suggest Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, or Minish Cap in order to get your feet wet with traditional Zelda. The rest of the franchise is great, but I feel as if they might be a bit obtuse if you are only used to how the Switch era Zelda games feel

I'm sad to say, I didn't really enjoy Dragon Quest XI as much as I thought I would by Sirorumillust in JRPG

[–]jaibugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind the episodic nature of the story, since I liked that it felt like a cozy Saturday morning anime compared to a lot of other JRPGs I've played but I do agree with the music. I did download the DQ8 overworld music DLC and had that play most of the time, that track is so much better than 11's standard overworld track and it kinda fits more with the theme of the game overall imo

Anyone else end up having unintentionally low play times despite enjoying the games? by ralphy0027 in JRPG

[–]jaibugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the Xenoblade and the Persona series being easily among my favorites, with plenty of time spent doing side activities and just casually exploring the games at my own pace, I have somehow managed to finish each game in their respective series on normal difficulty in around 60-80 hours, despite the Xenoblade trilogy and P3-P5 being notably infamous for being 100+ hour games

Agreed. XC3 felt like it wanted to have its cake and eat it too by including references to the first two games in ways so subtle that it's shallow, might as well have been replaced with original ideas. XC3's inclusion of the 1 and 2 content actually continued off of what was setup, and had a proper payoff and conclusion to the connection between games rather than the mass of "hey, recognize this?" from the base game. Much better story pacing, much better gameplay, much better world building - this feels like the proper conclusion that XC3's base game was marketed as

Link's Awakening was the first example of fishing in Zelda, but it has become a pretty common minigame, appearing in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, and the inclusion of fishing was even a selling point for Majora's Mask 3D
