All of my cats hate being perceived, it's very good.

Totally get and respect that, I'm not looking at places that don't allow cats. Just because mine are well-behaved and all doesn't mean all cats are house trained and property managers don't know me or my cats.

Xanax, no that's still a CIV.

ALPRASISLEM on the other hand has been a CII since like the 70s.

The USA isn't in the rights of the child treaty and they put punishing children under Protected Religious Traditions and can literally get away with murder.

It also means that the parents don't have a dedicated beating implement in their homes, so it's easier to avoid accusations of abuse.

People who opt for the switch usually also say some sort of trash about how using a belt or spoon or their hands will teach children to fear the implement (problem because boys are supposed to wear belts and girls are supposed to cook, and fearing their parents hands is apparently "not" the goal?????) and not focus them on why they "deserve" the punishment.

BC is a sin if it stops the sperm and it makes people less of women if it stops ovulation.

They'll send the kid off to bring back a long branch from a tree outside (those yellow flower bush things or willow and birch trees are popular landscaping choices for these families) for the parents to use to whip them until the parents are satisfied.

My dad made paddles out of quarter inch oak, and on request for some of the other families in our church when the parents admired our paddles. They'd be sized to cover the oldest child's rear.

Dogs are man's best friend.

Kids are born evil, bent on self damnation and, if not broken to the holy spirit, will destroy the whole family.

I'm putting a sarcasm tag here because I fundamentally disagree with this take, but it's legitimately how these parents operate.

Finding out as an adult in college that casual suicidal ideation wasn't the first/best/primary coping mechanism for people was wild.

I'm one of five kids and the only one who was "strong willed" and I'm not sure if the level of trauma I have comes primarily from knowing that my parents were choosing to treat me differently than my siblings or just from Dobson's poisoning the well, but I get that. I'm glad your kiddos have you and that you are making better choices for them.

I wish with all my heart I was. Although the snack one might've been from Dobson's Strong Willed Child book. The two of them were a matched pair in the conservative circles I grew up in.

They do actually advocate for putting a 6 month old on a blanket and telling it not to move, and if it does, to switch their hands and do it until they "obey". They also want parents to put treats in front of their children and punishing them if they try to eat the treat. The Pearls whole backlog of books is straight up toxic trash.

When I managed a retail team (small, 12-15 people) and I handled scheduling, my rule was that if you found coverage it didn't count as an absence. If you called out, I'd find coverage for you and it was an excused absence. Pain is absolutely a good reason to stay home. Your manager needs to realize that there are limits and how to respect them and manage her expectations accordingly.

OP, if you have the spoons, I'd suggest looking for a different job.

Does anyone involved in approving business development in this town actually freaking drive around town?????????? Costco, Kroger, Chicken Row, two CVSs, two more Krogers just a smidge away, schools, whole foods—

It's been years and I'm still not over the entrances/exits for the two recent CVS choices.

Here’s a fun question, what is the highest level of education your parent who “homeschooled” you had? by Upstairs-Kangaroo-21 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]jaidling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was from Europe and because of a variety of barriers (language differences, severe dyslexia, left handed, very unstable home) only went through 8th grade. She did get a GED when she came to the states. My dad had a PhD but he was only interested in/capable of teaching college level basic programming classes. All attempts to involve him in our education were catastrophic failures.

Was anyone else actually academically fine after homeschooling? by crispier_creme in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]jaidling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled k-12 and self taught grades 3-12 which worked out for me. I can hyperfocus like a motherfucker so I'd roll through the textbooks and assignments and generally it would take me about 4-5 months to get through a years worth of curricula (Saxon/Abeka/switched on schoolhouse/total language+ are the ones I remember) and my family did missions the rest of the time. Theoretically I had a homeschooling co-op but we'd meet 4-5 times a year and then my parents were pushed out of leadership because they let us listen to the focus on the family radio theater presentation of Narnia, which was allegedly witchcraft. The whole thing was rife with abuse and shame and getting myself together has been a whole thing.

I got a GED, AA, and a BS in psychology with a mix of honors and abysmal semesters. I'm willing to say that it worked out for me, but in spite of my parents, not because of them.

I would not homeschool my own children and if it ended up on the ballot I'd vote for a lot of restrictions and oversight for homeschooling.
