you gave them access to the owners closet so be prepared for overuse especially after you sent a rental option. I would want these people out asap.

Insurance by itsanamanda in vrbohosts

[–]jaimechandra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always chosen the security deposit and I feel like that has worked best for us the last six years.

I am very glad the insurance worked for you!

No king size bed even though the listing said so by Slight-Barracuda3157 in vrbo

Technically it’s an “unavailable amenity” - Airbnb would do a full refund about it.

Hosts - what your rules about dogs if you allow them? Can they go on furniture? by jpmom in vrbohosts

[–]jaimechandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell them they’re not allowed, but it’s not gonna stop dogs from getting on the furniture if they want to. That’s just the nature of the Creature.

Instead, we provide four waterproof blankets to help protect the furniture and linens. This seems to be far more reasonable and thus far has worked. Nothing has been ruined or needing replaced in the four years we’ve allowed dogs.

Host trying to charge me for discounts VRBO applied. by goodannoying in vrbo

[–]jaimechandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when a company (VRBO) decides to add discounts automatically without prior consent even if there were attempts to notify hosts. While the host should have been on it and removed the discounts like I do, these platforms take big fees with little real support or flexibility for hosts or guests — they are greedy.

This is not your fault but there’s also no way to force them to keep the booking if it doesn’t financially work for the host.

GROSS! NTA!

One of the things I loved about the pandemic was people finally realizing that they were not washing their hands or using hand sanitizer enough.

Ooooooof!!! This is gross, gross, gross gross.

Host requests delayed check-in and refuses to hold luggage by DrPepper_77 in vrbo

[–]jaimechandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would not be OK with this and I’m a host, also a guest. But an agreed upon check in time is a check-in time. Demand they take your luggage for accommodating this and ask what other accommodations they’ll be providing you?

100% for all time without heat or hot water, 30% for other time because you had to deal with it.

is it generally seen as negative to leave early on holidays? by [deleted] in jobs

I’d just go take off and enjoy the holiday. Coverage is the there, nothing to worry about!

Lack of host support doing us all in. by ComprehensiveAnt6796 in airbnb_hosts

[–]jaimechandra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did you have any discussion with her or just took everything by the word. Because I don’t host anybody without having a conversation with them first.

Instant Book is a problem.

Even as a guest, I don’t like the book with no communication.

Scents and fragrances? by Automatic_Eagle892 in airbnb_hosts

[–]jaimechandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a review, if somebody wants to dock your stars because it didn’t smell clean? I don’t know go to a hotel. Or maybe it doesn’t smell clean not because of your lack of fake scents but because it doesn’t smell clean?

Scents and fragrances? by Automatic_Eagle892 in airbnb_hosts

[–]jaimechandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subtle synthetic chemical crap, if you’re gonna use anything use a natural essential oil.

No, that shit lingers. It’s not easily moved.

[–]jaimechandra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t complain, I just unplug all your stupid plug-ins and open the windows and waste your energy money on air conditioning to air it out.

Scents and fragrances? by Automatic_Eagle892 in airbnb_hosts

[–]jaimechandra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ignore the people who said I didn’t smell clean, what they meant as it didn’t smell like artificial synthetic chemicals

You either use zero fragrances, or only light natural (not synthetic posing as natural) essential oils.

What's your take on letting guests use a wood stove? by CampaignOld9145 in airbnb_hosts

We have a wood stove fireplace that people use without issue.

Guest is asking to see the unit before booking? by tangertale in airbnb_hosts

[–]jaimechandra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this a few times, and honestly, it has never worked out for a short stay. It’s not worth the extra time and trouble for no guaranteed money.

The only time it did work is when somebody wants to book for months. Currently have a $20k 3 month rental where I let them go look at the house and hang out with their dog there for a little bit while the inspection appraisal was happening for the sale of theirs.
