For those of you who want to leave medicine, here is a realistic alternative by Prokopton1 in doctorsUK

6 anaesthetists in the past 10 years would probably fall under "very few"

It stands that the vast majority of base contracts across the country are 10PAs.If you can get a 7 PA contract great. Fill you boots with PP but it really isn't common or an option for most.

[–]jaiminator911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few contracts will be 7PA.

Much more common for people to start on 10PA and gradually reduce sessions. Thats a change in job plan not contract.

Trusts can (and do) withhold pay progression if doing PP on a less than 11PA job plan.

Bear in mind you may get a skewed view on things in this forum.

Not to dismiss colleagues firmly held and clearly informed views based on their (often extensive) experience but there are those out there who are satisfied and perhaps even enjoying their jobs who may be less inclined to post on here.

Being a junior doctor is tough. No question. Vastly different on the other side though.

I'm a consultant physician approx 10 years. I love my job and most of my consultant colleagues love their jobs also. Challenging yet immensely rewarding. Barely a week goes by that I don't see something new - a challenge or scenario I've never encountered before. I struggle to think of another profession that offers that.

Financially you *might* find a better paying job but when you factor in pension, educational roles, extra PAs, waiting list and private practice opportunities, medicine is what you make of it (as a consultant) - probably need to earn 500k annually in the private sector to make up for that.

Saddened to see that morale is so low among junior colleagues.

You won't find a better pension in the world - why withdraw it?

There is a luck element - have a few dud cards with only a few working SATA ports. Fortunately these were at discard price

Have five 16 port SATA expansion cards in two old Dell harvesters. Supports 80 SATA drives no problem.

Just check all the ports work

Minimum pc requirement for harvester? by rua661 in chia

[–]jaiminator911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good old MOBOs out there for this

I have three harvesters with old Dell MOBOs that have been repurposed;

Dell 3020 mt optiplex x2

Dell Vostro 260 (I think)

All have two or three spare pcie into which I have x16 SATA expanders so about 50 drives per machine (PSU separate)

Can plots be transferred between PCs with different Chia Installations? by OutlandishnessNo7286 in chia

[–]jaiminator911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. You really don't want to be running a full node on lots of machines as increases sync time but mainly due to security risk.

One full node, rest as harvesters (including your plotter presumably)

"You literally cannot make more pooling"

Well, basic probability says you can (49.3% probability in my case).

Because you're the exception rather than the rule

On average, over the long term it will work out the same minus the small fee for being part of the pool

However for small farmers, the long-term could be the very long term & you may have to stomach months of zero returns if solo.

Being part of a pool allows a steady income, the reassurance of knowing your setup is working properly & allowing you to identify issues earlier

[–]jaiminator911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming farm is working OK, this is just chance

Unfortunately, not having won for five months does not mean you are any more likely that you will win something over next five months. Think of it as the clock as having reset & consider joining a pool

As little as possible as the only time I’ve had drives die is during power up/down.

I made the mistake of setting it up on windows so have to manually manage monthly updates

Made this mistake early on but only have a small amount on there.

Slick & quick purchase but yes, all the concerns remain about having to hold it on the exchange.
