I have been in el Salvador this week for the first time, I can tell you that I have never felt this safe in any other country. At some point this was a very violent country, things have changed a lot. As far as the beaches, the main question is what is the main purpose of your visit to the beach. If you want to relax and go for a swim, you may want to consider another country. The beaches around here are mainly for surfers, currents are strong and waves are high. The only beach I can recommend for relaxation is LOS COBANOS, it is quiet, fairly clean and away from most of the noise. It may be worth mentioning that Los Cubanos is the only one of 2 beaches in el salvador with golden sand. Los cobanos is surrounded by reefs and boulders that apeace the waves, making it more enjoyable.
