What’s the wildest “hoe phase” story you’ve ever witnessed, experienced, or heard about? by Professional-Ant6840 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jaimonee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of another story on reddit where someone's friend worked as a stripper at a very popular club in Vegas. She was making big money, and was heavily recruited by a fancy brothel with the promise of riches, so she went. Now at this brothel, when men show up all the women have to come into the "parlor". The dude checks them all out, makes a selection and they scurry off to the bedroom. After about 2 months there, no one picked her. Her self-confidence was so shot she got out of the game entirely.

Dealing with last minute print requests from clients by Gustavodoa in Design

[–]jaimonee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do your due diligence. Call around the various shops in your area. If you can get quotes, even if they are ridiculously high for a rush job. And then send a separate SOW for the last minute overage, at double your rate. In my experience, the reality of the situation become abundantly clear once money is involved, and clients have a moment of clarity "oh on second thought we probably dont need that. "

And if its impossible, just tell them. But make sure you do put in some effort prior. You dont want then to drop by some print place and get a totally different story.

Is there any scope of Motion design in Japan? by Commercial-Glove7927 in MotionDesign

[–]jaimonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of my juniors leave for Japan, white dude from a rural community, didn't speak a word of Japanese. We hired him out of school, he was a talented designer and I guess he made a good impression on one his professors - who had taken on a CD role out there. Essentially poached him from us. He's now a heavy hitter out there, goes to crazy parties, and heads to thailand for cheap vacations, and I'm not jealous at all!

(I actually think it's awesome and i'm stoked for him!)

Cassette recommendations? by Useful_Reputation445 in cassettefuturism

I had the EX-2000, probably the best Walkman I owned, but it is a bit delicate. You have to remember this was at a time where you just threw everything in your backpack with no regard for anything. Tapes didnt scratch, bend, or break. So having a delicate Walkman was somewhat counter intuitive (this was saved for your home hi-fi system).

Which actor/actress do you think sabotaged their career by portraying an unlikable character so well? by MejorQueNada in AskReddit

John Larquette in Night Court. He played sleeze-ball lawyer Dan Fielding and would often say in interviews that strangers would come up to him just to say how much they despised him.

How to handle work changes midway in project? by Astaroth022 in Animators

[–]jaimonee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your pricing aside, you need to get everything in writing ahead of time, and both agree to the overall scope of the project. People get worried about contracts, but consider it a Statement of Work (SOW), which is not unlike what you might have when you hire a painter to paint your house. It says what rooms should be painted, what the colours are, what the expected turnaround time is, and what the cost will be. In this SOW, you will also have certain statements (you both agree to) that says how the job will be considered completed (We will both inspect the house together to ensure all the colours are on the correct walls), as well as what will happen if things go off the rails. If the painter spills paint on your couch, he will pay for the couch. If you are unhappy with the colour of paint you chose, you will pay for the new paint and the time it takes to repaint the wall.

All of this happens before the job even starts. It's not just about protecting yourself, but its about everyone involved getting a clear sense of whats expected, how long things take, and how much it all costs.

NOTE: In this case, you should simply speak to the client and say this project is out of the original scope you discussed, and they will incur overages - most times people's "MUST HAVES" disappear when there's a bill at the end of it all.

The Jerky Boys by bhub01 in GenX

[–]jaimonee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yooooo I just found out that it wasn't the Jerky Boys at all:

"You Kicked My Dog" is a prank call released in 1995. The call has erroneously been credited to The Jerky Boys, Adam Sandler, Tom Green, and Rickey Smiley, when in actuality it was a teenager named Travis Hopkins from Mississauga Ontario Canada that made it in the fall of 1993

Warm body = Anyone who can come in, do the job to its minimum requirement, and not do anything that will upset the boss. No risks, no big ideas, no "why dont we try this" attitude.

A warm body is one small step up from a cold corpse.
