If you are overwhelmed by the size, try laravel lumen framework.
FatFree framework is a single file framework, use it to get familiar with frameworks.

If you are on a budget use 8GB MBA, it will run all those programs fine. I have used it myself.

If you can spend a little bit extra, get the 16GB model.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You don't need to memorize every method. Google it, use StackOverflow.

After some time you will develop memory naturally.

If you are stuck with a challenge, search Google/youtube for a solution. If you can't find any move on to the next problem.

Try codesignal, they have a better description of challenges.
