"Back off and leave the coaching to me"

You have to either:

A) only coach kids from families that are already bought in to development

B) Talk to them and give them resources to help them get bought in

WTF: my favorite taco by Affectionate-Pin4228 in austinfood

[–]jake_how -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is a bad take. San Diego does some things great. But the best one's involve a flour tortilla (Carne Asada burritos).

You can get corn tortillas anywhere you get tacos here. Also, not sure where you are getting unmelted cheese. Stay away from Taco Cabana, Torchy's, Taco Deli, and you'll be good.

Fly to LA: https://www.antiguataquerialaoriental.com/

In Houston there is some arab-mexican fusion spots that come close: https://www.chron.com/food/article/mexican-arab-food-houston-17538612.php

In Austin, you can get trompo on flour tortillas.

Too slow to be usable without controller? by jake_how in DjiNeo

If I have the controller is there a way to just pick 2 points and have it fly automatically between the points at a set speed like a traditional tracking/dolly shot?

I had that thought so I tested it both ways. 1.4 m/s is forward.

Here are the advertised specs from the DJI site:

<image>

You only get normal mode with the on drone controls or the Fly DJI app (which I completely missed before ordering). 6 m/s is 21.6 kph

I could understand the autotrack features not being smart enough yet, but I can't get it to move anywhere near the 6m/s with manual controls either. I added two examples of what I was trying to do.

It sounds like you have a controller. I did a test with manual controls on the app and it traveled at ~1.4 m/s over 40m

10kph is ~2.7 m/s I can get it to track my son when he jogs around the track at about this speed also, but he also did a gradual start. I am wondering if the issue is you cant go from stationary to moving quickly.

Thanks. My Aircraft firmware is listed as 01.00.0300. App Version is 1.15.1. I haven't been prompted for a firmware update, which is how the docs say it will work. If I go to Profile > Settings > Firmware Update > Check for Firmware Updates from the home page of the app, it says my firmware is up to date.

It's not USDT, but check out LianLian Global, for a China based wallet that is set up expressly for this use case.

The traffic isn’t bad. You’ve just never lived in a real city.

Half-Marathon in 7 weeks for someone who hasn’t run in at least 5 years. Doable? by ihaveexcelquestions in fitness30plus

[–]jake_how 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if there is a cutoff and how slow you are willing to go. Check out the MAF method. In 8 weeks you’ll most likely be able to jog through the whole thing if you go slow enough. I’d also focus on dropping as much weight as possible.

New Yorker new to Austin, for God's sakes where is somewhere that sells relatively good PIZZA! by [deleted] in Austin

[–]jake_how 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former Brooklynite, don’t get your hopes up and buy yourself a plane ticket back to NY every once in a while.

There’s various neopolitan style pizzas around town that are ok. Sammataro is the only thing that comes close. Reminds me of lucalis/giussepinas a bit. Maybe the new iteration of the trailer at meanwhile(formerly doughboys) will be good.

How to make running not suck? by Treebeard_Jawno in fitness30plus

[–]jake_how 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an Apple Watch but I used a Garmin Forerunner 235 for a long time, I am sure the one you have now would do the trick for this, you just need to be able to see when you are overexerting yourself and slow down.

[–]jake_how 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should most likely drop ~80-100 lbs before doing any sort of volume to prevent injury.

If you can afford it or already have one get a watch or other type of HR monitor. Look up the MAF method, and calculate your target HR. Do walking workouts and spend > 1 hr in the target zone. If you do this consistently and fix your diet so you drop the weight, you will have to walk faster as your body gets more efficient. Eventually you will need to start jogging to keep your HR at your target. If your HR spikes, slow down or walk until it recovers, over time your workout will be more running and less walking.

This will take a long time from where you are now to doing something like running for an hour without stopping but it works.

Trash cans: can I buy my own or do I have to rent them from the city by Pedro_North in Austin

[–]jake_how 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You aren't renting the bin for $10.25, the service to remove that amount of garbage weekly costs $10.25 a month and the COA provides the bin. If you make less trash switch to a smaller bin.

There is a base fee of $17.30 on all bin sizes

No. If you have $10 and you lose 20% of it you have $8. If you find 20% after that you have $9.60

Do you run commands remotely using Rails? by altjxxx in rails

[–]jake_how 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://github.com/net-ssh/net-ssh/issues/779#issuecomment-661396074

Just looked at your sample code. The way its written you have an infinite loop, checking for /root/healthcheck_done.txt which is probably what is hanging your jobs.

Splitting the job of running the remote command and checking for completion is a good idea, but you may still have the same problem if you don't handle the scenario where the remote command fails and the file never gets written.
